I loved football before I ever got attached to any particular footballer, is that strange??.. Anyway, as a kid I always wanted to be Alessandro Del Piero so I guess it was him.

George Best first attracted me to football. But I soon saw the light and Gordon Banks made me a Stokie.

Maybe Kempes in '78,that World Cup seemed so Atmospheric and entrancing as a young kid,but hard to narrow it down to a solitary player so I' d say the Brazil team of '82,Eder,Zico,Socrates et al.....majestic football.

Denis Smith....I'd gone down Stoke one day as a kid playing outside the Victoria Ground, if I'm right, I recall a small club shop somewhere around the back of the old Stoke end.... There I saw a photograph of Denis smith, I was only young and never been to a football match before, but I had a couple of bob on me so I brought it for my dad, hadn't a clue who he was at the time but my dad was a massive Stoke fan!!! Anyhow, my dad was real proud of me that day, and let me keep the photo of Denis, and I couldn't stop looking at it, it was like I was mesmerised by it....... So there ya have it....Denis started me on my love of Stoke, and football in general!!!

No particular player attracted me to football. There has been lots of individual players that have made an impact though. Ricardo Fuller being one of them.

Platini with his inch perfect passing. At Stoke, Mickey Thomas and his gashed shin against Liverpool.

My lad asked me today(something off facefuck i think). Which player made you fall in love with football? Mine is Peter Beagrie. so who's yours? Snap, Peter Beagrie was mine too. Then Peter Hoekstra made me fall in love with football all over again. And Bojan has done it all over again.

One slightly off centre, but mine was Big Bren O'Callaghan. Still one of my favourite all time players today.

Some really good shouts on here lads.
Mine was Garth Crooks who was quickly over taken by Mark Chamberlain who is my all time favourite.
I also agree with the likes of Peter Beagrie and Peter Hoekstra, fabulous players who gave us a rite buzz wen they were in the team, great to wake up on a Saturday morning knowing we had these kind of player in our team, even Akinbiyi gave me the buzz

When I was younger, it was just all about Stoke to be honest. I loved watching Vinny and Foghorn, and of course the Golden One, when I was old enough to understand the game (my old man had taken me plenty of times but it was more about the pies and running around the Boothen End than really watching the footy). Had plenty of favourites after that - from Toddy, to Sheron, to Razor and plenty of others - but I never really paid much attention to other teams or footballers until the later 90s. I think the first players that I would just happily watch play the game regardless of who they played for were Zola and Bergkamp.

Sir Jimmy Greenhoff made fall in love with Stoke City.
Alan Hudson showed me how strong that emotion could be and how much I could love football itself.

For me it was the whole '74 World Cup. Some incredible players on show in that tournament with West Germany fielding Sepp Maier, Gerd Muller and Beckenbauer and the Dutch with the silky skills of Cruyff and Neeskens. Just a wonderful event that really shaped my love affair with football.
From a Stoke City perspective it was the goals of Jimmy Greenhoff that had a wide eyed youngster in total awe. There have been a few players over the years that have been a pleasure to watch, but Greenhoff was the first Stoke player that truly mesmerised me. Absolute legend...

Mark Chamberlain, occasionally got free tickets for the boothen stand. The old guys in there used to rip the shit out of him.
They all moaned he was nowhere near as good as Matthews.
