OK .... What I really meant is who are the teams that you historically/nostalgically associate with being in the top tier of English football? (Not those we'd like to see ala Longford AFC, New Mills, Bashley and 16 similar and Stoke ) Mine are: Arsenal Aston Villa Blackburn Rovers Chelsea Derby County Everton Leeds United Leicester City Liverpool Manchester City Manchester United Newcastle United Nottingham Forest Sheffield United Stoke City Southampton Tottenham Hotspurs West Bromwich Albion West Ham United Wolverhampton Wanderers I include Leicester and Blackburn simply because they have won the Premiership and they are in at the expense of Sunderland and Birmingham City. Interestingly, Stoke only kick in at 22 on the All-Time Top Flight Table, but based on points per game, we are a lot lower!

I would go for Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday over Southampton and Sheffield United...

I would go for Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday over Southampton and Sheffield United... Yes, I had a dilemma with the Sheffield teams. Plumbed for United because they were big in the early years of me supporting Stoke.

Surely any list like this can only rightly be based on seasons spent in the top-flight. That makes us a genuine top-flight club. Clickerty-click

Clickerty-clickThat list is bang on for the top 20 - interesting that all three north east clubs and both Sheffield clubs get in yet Dirty Leeds, Forest, Leicester and the Saints don't.

They remain the only club since the formation of the Football League in 1888-89 who never earnt their place on merit Surprise surprise

Forest, Leeds and Brum...With either Norwich or Ipswich for East Anglia nostalgia, I remember the Ipswich team of late 70's, winning cups and doing well...

Anything that keeps the number of London clubs to a bare minimum and the southern commuter towns to zero is fine by me.

So did Darwen evolve into Blackburn Rovers? no, Blackburn were one of the original 12 So they were more like Port Vale, too close to a proper football club to ever really thrive(outside of major city's anyhow)

Ipswich should be in there really. Won the League, won the FA cup, won the UEFA cup & produced England's finest 2 managers (Ramsey & Robson)
