It was huge bonus to see him in the squad today & for good reason. Another very solid performance. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves on here. Whenever Johnson's been out, he has stepped up to the mark more often than not.

We need a right back next season but I'd give Bardo the contract extension over Johnson to be the back up/competition.
Far more reliable and has played excellently this last season and a bit.

As cover goes, few in the league have a better 2nd choice RB! Solid pro.

He's looked better when stepping in as back-up to Johnson than he did as our first choice right back.
Decent, but another very injury prone player we can't always rely on to be available when we need him.

We need full backs for both flanks, I'd be tempted to extend neither but if 3 full backs amongst all the other business we need to do in the Summer is too much to ask I'd go along with 12 months for Bardsley no more.

Johnson is the better player, but his fitness lets him down too often unfortunately! Bards has done great after Johnson's arrival, but he still isn't of the same calibre!

What a legend Bardo is. Gave me one of the very best moments i've ever had watching Sunderland. That last minute equaliser at Old Trafford in front of 10000 of us to eventually send us to Wembley.

He had one shaky patch a couple of years ago and that has never been forgotten in some peoples minds, another solid display form him and the rest of the team.

He's a very solid right back, reliable performer, and plays with a gutsy commitment that as a fan it's easy to warm to.
On the flip side though, he's not a good attacker. In his 237 career Premier League appearances he has been involved in just ten goals (7 goals, 3 assists). In 278 games, Glen Johnson has scored 12 and assisted 18. For that reason I prefer to see Johnson in our side.
Unfortunately I think Johnson's injuries will slowly get the better of him, and we need a strength in depth, so I'd welcome another year for Phil.

I've been overly critical of Bardsley. Same as I was previously with Glenn. chiefdelilah was bang on the money though. Great squad player and able deputy to Johnson.
