Could be very interesting.
Lots of questions to be asked.
- Will we cut our losses and sell Imbula. - Will some of our old stagers be allowed to go Walters, Crouch, Adam. - Will our chase of Berahino continue? - What will we do in Jan to cover for Bony and Diouf. Will we make do.
I guess a lot depends on where we are sitting in the league but could be interesting. The biggest issue will be Imbula as he just doesn't appear to fit into our system.
From the season so far Id look at getting the following in
A Proper DM Whelan upgrade. Sign up Grant on a perm if he continues to do well. If Jacks issues continue get in a decent third keeper. Another striker for Jan enabling us to loan out Walters or Crouch or both and so we have cover for the AN. Another winger if Sobhi isn't being played. A CB for cover with GCam doing well in DM we only have Muni.

We'll have a very quiet January window, primarily because Hughes won't be given much of a budget at all. Currently, he has circa £30 million of his recent signings that can't even make the matchday squad.
Why would the board allow him to waste even further money?
Sobhy Ahmed - £5 million Imbula - £18.3 million Joselu - £6 million

I guess we'll hopefully have Afellay and to a lesser extent Ireland back soon after jan hopefully. If we get the Afellay of last season back I think he'd be excellent in a 3 with Allen and Geoff.

Extend Grant to end of season if poss no longer though, need to sign a keeper in the Summer with a view to if Jack gets targeted by one of the big boys, ie a future long term No1.
Striker or 2 if we could shift the other two out but I doubt it, they're like the managers dummy tit.
Young full back for either side who can get up and down for 90 and actually cross a football.
Why waste more money on another winger when the manager ignores Sobhi even though he has no genuine wide options.
Doubt we'll buy another centre half until or if we get Wolly off the wagebill (how longs his contract?) As for Cameron he's of an age where he'll need replacing himself quite soon.
Can't see any major surgery in Jan unless we're looking like we're in a relegation scrap, which I don't think we will be.
We need to start clearing the decks in the Summer no sentiment, no extending players because they're a good egg or have been good servants or are good on the rare occasions they're fit.

Or is he just not Stoke fit de ja vu.

Will be dead I bet, rumours about Shaq etc. but nothing doing. I can't see Hughes shipping out walters or crouch as he seems to rate them nigher than others. I honestly think we'll be settled in a reasonable run by then so the pressure will be off somewhat

We will be linked with Berahino again so that the press have something to run with….but we still won't sign him as he leaves on a free in the summer.

We should go balls deep for Trippier with our current RB injury issues.

We do. Tripper at Spurs would be ideal - a modern full back who is great going forward, good at crosses, corners and free kicks and sound in defence. Can't get regular game time at Spurs because of Walker's form, is mid 20s and comes from oop North. What's not to like? Spurs will want a profit on the £4 million they paid for him but we could get him for maybe less than £8 million.

Not entirely fair ! with Given in goal and Imbula protecting the backfour. With Grant and Cameron it looks much more solid.

Sign Grant and Indi permanently, at least one striker in (loan from MLS - Cyle Larin maybe?) to cover for ACN (Crouch and Walters must go as well), ideally another winger and a defensive midfielder. I can't see the full back situation being addressed until the summer.
Imbula is a conundrum - if we sell, we will take a massive hit.

You're not suggesting getting rid of Crouch and Walers while Diouf and Bony are away are you? I'm sure you're not, but even if the former stay, it could be painful! I still expect us to bring in Berahino, but whether he'll be fit for purpose is another matter! I know absolutely nothing about Larin. It could be a very testing month.

In an ideal world, Walters and Crouch would be gone already! If Saido arrives and we can bring in a loan striker like Larin (pacey, direct, good goal scoring record, regular for Canada so no problems with a work permit), then, yes, I would get rid of both of them if we can (on loan, with a recall clause, but with a view to a permanent summer move away). They are simply not up to it any more and are both taking up a wage and a squad place. Far better to have Ngoy on the bench now moving forward. I'd even consider Verlinden as wing cover, as he looks a real gem.

It'll be a big risk if he's had no game experience to speak of. He may not exactly hit the ground running....

Out of shape and close to out of contract, Saido could well cost less than 10m, but there is class underneath it all. Let him come in, get fit and shadow Wilf (and Diouf), and maybe replace him come the summer if Wilf either does not want to sign or has not proven his worth. For January, he may not be the answer, which is why I am keen on a Larin or similar - we can also see if Cyle has what it takes to make the step up from the MLS. All of the above is a bit of a gamble, and it is to be hoped we are in comfortable mid-table by then, as, if a relegation battle was looming, and we were in desperate need of points, missing our first and second choice forwards, and relying on a loanee with no experience in England and an overweight, out of practice "troubled child" would be a high risk strategy. Sending you a message, Mr Hall.

Crouch and Walters during January is a truly scary prospect!!. We have moved on with our forward players, he is just not on the same wavelength I thought on Saturday or build up play was quicker and more incisive with much more movement. Anybody else agree?. Thought Sunderland were actually quite open from the start which surprised me. Indi is an absolute must and I would try and get Bony permanently. He so fits how we set up and long term can see him getting 15+ goals a season

Sobhy Ahmed - £5 million Imbula - £18.3 million Joselu - £6 million Sobhi was always going to be one for the future and was never going to get much game time (that's my opinion of why he was signed anyway). You can only make so much of a judgement on someone's character and personality. If what's been made out about Imbula is true, Hughes is only partly to blame. Any transfer could end up like that, it's just unfortunate that it was a very expensive transfer. Joselu was poor by Hughes. It goes without saying how good Allen has been. Bojan isn't getting much of a game at all lately but, considering what we paid, he's definitely been a big success. Bruno looks a quality loan. Arnautovic was bought on the cheap and look how good he's been. Shaqiri is hit or, more often, a miss but he could still come good. Wollscheid split opinions but I didn't think he was too bad overall. I'm not saying Hughes has done incredible in the transfer market, but to single out three players, regardless of whether I fully agree with two of them or not, when he's also made some excellent signings, is a bit harsh. I don't doubt Coates would still back him with money if it made sense.

I think him being a regular will only guarantee a permit if Canada are in the top 50 and I'm pretty sure they're not.
