Back at Derby. How does he keep getting jobs? By all accounts an excellent coach but he's clearly no manager!

Most I know are happy he's back because of the football he played when last there. The big problem at the club is the chairman who likes to meddle apparently

If they hadn't sacked him first time round, Derby would be in the Premier League now I believe.

If they hadn't sacked him first time round, Derby would be in the Premier League now I believe. He's got the biggest budget in the Championship and bottled promotion enormously. They were top in March and finished 8th. Wonder how this appointment tallies with the 'English managers don't get a chance' argument.

Surely McClaren does hurt the argument of 'written off after one failure'?

I seem to recall he was a coach there and left to go and be assistant to Alex Ferguson, so maybe this is his 3rd spell

They sacked him at the end of the season after his team faded out of contention. The chairman blamed the manager for not stating that he wasn't interested in the Newcastle job. He believed that the associated distraction caused the season to go to shit . Shteve then walked into the Newcastle job.

Remember the majority of Stoke fans being gutted at TP's second coming and look what that managed to achieve! However I really do have doubts over McClarens managerial ability in general & really can't see this new arrangement having a happy ending. At least it's another useless manager out of the job centre so should it be we were casting eyes out for a new gaffer anytime soon he'll be out of harms way! Same can be said for Roberto Martinez!!

Press days should be fun .... if his stint at FC Twente is anything to go by
