Whelan and Cameron with Allen in the advanced role is looking to be our most balanced midfield set up at the moment. So where does this leave our record signing?

It leaves him needing to raise his game and work hard to get back in the team.

On the bench watching the three mentioned learning that the English game needs midfielders who go till the whistle, run all match and need to tackle and intercept the ball.

I just think we needed to address the goals we were letting in and having 2 defensive midfielders is something we had to do.

That technical ability isn't everything - you need intelligent positioning and graft.
And that Hughes will play what he considers the best team for the job at hand - regardless of reputation and price tag. Which is how it should be.
I can see him coming back into the side at some point. He just has to fight for his place and realise its not his by right,

If we are honest we weren't that much more secure today, with two holding midfielders,Man U could have had 4 by half time, with good goalkeeping and poor finishing we got away with it. Imbula has way more to his game than Cameron or Glen. But the manager needs to find the way to get the most out of him.

Imbula has way more to his game than Cameron or Glen. But the manager needs to find the way to get the most out of him. Could have, but didn't. Stoke could have been 1-0 up at half-time; Cameron had a free shot at goal with just the goalie to beat. We got the ball into their area on numerous occasions, but their defenders were alert and cleared; just what Grant did for us as they are paid to do.

He will sit and learn, he will get more defensive and learn his off the ball duties as he is so young and talented but he needs moulding into a fine CM. He hasn't pushed through just yet.

Interesting comment from Hughes (1m41s) I just couldn't get him on the bench today. We needed a ltle bit of cover, we had a few injuries). Mmm. Considering in his pre match we had no injuries (beyond the long term ones) where did these injuries spring up from?

Hopefully it'll see him taking a look at the likes of Allen and Arnie and maybe realising the benefits of mixing ability with a hard working mentality.
Here's hoping anyway.

If Imbula does what he's been asked to do. He'll be the first name on the team sheet
He's absolute class. He's shown it in brief moments last season.
He has a place in the team but he's got to earn it. As soon as the penny drops it'll be Whelan and Cameron fighting for the position as you simply cannot leave a man of Imbulas talent on the bench
I remember the performance he put in away at Chelsea last year. Head and shoulders the best player on the pitch. Even Chelsea fans noticed.
We all want that Imbula in the team ASAP
