Just seen on SSN that David Herd the former Man U and Stoke forward has passed away at the age of 82. I remember him scoring some cracking goals in the late 60's. R.I.P.

When Waddo signed him on a free trying to plug the gap of Ritchie's departure, DH did a good job for a couple of seasons even though he was knocking on a bit. RIP

NOW can we have the badge he designed for Stoke City in 1968 (left) as a fitting epitaph?
R.I.P. David Herd

Scored a lot of goals for us in 1 0 wins RIP David Before my time, but a quick squint at Wikipedia shows that he scored 11 goals in 44 appearances for Stoke.

He was past his best when Waddo signed him. In the modern era his goal scoring rate of more than a goal every other game would have eclipsed most strikers. Amazing that he only made 5 international appearances for Scotland, especially as Denis Law, his team mate at Man Utd, won 55 caps for Scotland.

He always looked smart in a Stoke strip ,had thighs like Shaks but was 6foot+ .Can remember him scoring two one game at the town end of the ground. For us old ones the Stoke end was the town end.

David Herd. R.I.P. A good blood and thunder, old style footballer who was a joy to watch. Wouldn't like to have defended against him. Big fan of his when he was at Stoke.

As a kid I remember writing a piece for the school magazine about a 2-0 win against Chelsea where David scored the first goal with a diving header.
He was a good footballer with a tremendous shot (though of course well past his best when Waddo signed him) and always (in my mind) looked as though he had just walked out of a photoshoot, whatever the weather.
Wasn't he also one of those rare players who appeared in the same side (Stockport) as his dad?
I was a bit surprised to see how old he was but I suppose 1968 is quite a long time ago.
RIP

I remember him in late 60's/ early 70's footy cards & stickers. Always looked like he was one of the first folks to use sunbeds with a right tan! Another player if our youth times gone.

R.I.P. Had a great shot on him did David. Too true. I think he could kick a ball as hard as anyone, apart from may be Bill Bentley, but just as hard as Harry Burrows. Condolences to all his loved ones.
