who gives a fuck there not stoke so as far as im conserned i don't care The people on this thread obviously give a fcuk, the fact that Inchy is manager and Rawlins is involved also may give some people interest, the fact we will be playing over there next pre-season is also of interest and that some of our youngsters may also be playing over there on loan may interest some people. People who don't give a fcuk shouldn't really be opening a thread about something they have no interest in, let alone actually wasting time posting on said threads. ;D

Blimey - played two, four points, no goals conceeded, goal difference +2. That's promotion form - or it would be if there was such a thing as promotion in American "soccer".
We are Aztex, super Aztex, Inchy is our King! ;D

from my facebook
The Austin Aztex U23s inaugurated their home field at Dragon Stadium with a 2-0 win over the Houston Leones on Saturday night. An extraordinary crowd of nearly 1,500 was on hand to see the Aztex defense’s second shutout in a row. AJ Godbolt got the scoring started in the 16th minute, with an assist from Jamie Watson. Two 2nd-half substitutes, Kevin Klaus and Robin Martinez, got together to put the game out of reach for the Leones in the 61st minute; Klaus assisting on Martinez’s goal.
The match was the 2nd of 4 U.S. Open Cup qualifying games; their win puts the Aztex at the top of the qualifier standings. Next Saturday’s game at Dragon Stadium, against the DFW Tornados, will also be a qualifying match

Was the "extraordinary" crowd of 1,500 extraordinarily large or extraordinarily small?

Obviously Vass's move was a bad move from Stoke's point of view. I wonder now we are promoted whether Vass will think it is a bad move from his point of view. I presume he will get a move to the top flight of Italian football even if Brescia don't get promoted but he might have preferred life (and the wages) in the Premier League.

lordb - I might prefer to live is Italy or Spain but plenty of Spaniards and Italians play over here so obviously they don't all feel that way. Vass had spendt several years in England before he left us and spoke almost perfect English when I spoke to him.
Obviously he left because he wanted regular first team football - I can understand that. But one year on, if he had stayed, he would possibly have been looking forward to playing in the Premiership like Dicko and Shawcross are and they are only a year older.

Joking aside re soccerball, there are a lot of our English lads ex-Academy, being released elsewhere and instead of moving to lower leagues in England or Scotland, they're looking stateside to continue their careers in conjunction with a much higher level of education and better long term prospects. Once again English football academies, using English FA funding, appear to be favouring recuitment from overseas, not due to lack of ability of English players, but young international players are worth more! (Stoke are pretty good at taking the lads from England).
I've recently spoken to some senior coaches, who are well known and respected in the English game, and they becoming are sick and tired of the number of foreign players, coming into the game at the expense of our own nationality lads. Arsene (I didn't see anything) Wenger recently said that he will continue to recruit from overseas as the talent just isn't here in the UK, which seems at odds with what these senior coaches are saying about the current state of the game. It does seem to be about value for money, ie what Wenger can get for £5000-£5500 a week from Africa versus European players, expectancy.
But for the majority of English players, it's not about high wages, as many lads in lower leagues are earning less the £200-£250 a week having to support families, like the rest of us and then battling for appearance fees/bonuses, week in week out, to bolster their wages. Due to the level of fitness required, many can't supplement their wages with other jobs, unfortunately.
Who can blame players for now wanting to look to the States to further their careers especially when they can get a scholarship paying them more than the £125 per week offered by clubs like Lincoln City for a first year pro?
