He's made 12 Prem appearances in the last 3 seasons; 2 seasons with us, Villa's number 2 for 14/15 and was in the wilderness for about 6 seasons before that (reserve team bench warmer, emergency loanee, winding down his career).
16/17: conceded 14 in 5 (2.8 per game) 15/16: conceded 9 in 3 (3 per game) 14/15: conceded 12 in 4 (3 per game)
35 goals against in 12 games (2.91 per game) - which is absolutely atrocious.
His performances when he came back in for Villa when he was a sprightly 38 were a warning sign that he was well past it, including that capitulation at Southampton. I wasn't too concerned that we were getting him in as a third choice, experienced keeper/coach but didn't want him anywhere near the first team and look at us now, 5 games in and he's played every minute.
I'm not saying that our results this season are down to Given but it'd be nice to have somebody in goal that isn't having a decent game when he only concedes 2. I don't think we'd be on -12 GD if Butland was fit. Grant has to come in.

Not the only culprit in yesterday's abysmal ,abject, woeful display but his lack of athleticism is there for all to see , goal number one was definitely his fault not protecting SJW but Shay should really have come out and cleaned both players out ,and the Townsend goal , is it just me or should he have thrown his cap on it ,I'm sorry Shay but you really are now playing like a fourty year old , get Lee Grant in NOW , as for the rest of em like the rest of you on here ,I haven't got a bloody clue let's hope LMH has 😱😱😱

It's funny how football works mate. Massive basic salaries with huge bonuses for doing your job properly. (Plus "Heads I win, tails you lose" contracts arranged by mercenary agents). If most of us were that bad at our jobs then we wouldn't have one?
I'm starting a new job soon where I have to work my arse off for 3 years to earn what Shaqiri does in a week. (luckily, my calfs, tendons and hamstrings are not similar in strength to those of a six year old girl - as I don't get sick pay either).

Given was a very good keeper but that was too long ago.Sadly he's not the only problem.

I am happy to put my neck on the line and say three of those goals are squarely on Given's head. Even so, you're missing the point of the post. He's had a massive part to play in all of the disasters this season. He was poor in the Man City game, utterly appalling in the Tottenham game and the worst I've seen yesterday. It doesn't just boil down to his handling abilities either, which seem to have evaded him. He is clearly unable to move. One game (I think it was last week), he made 4 or 5 very poor kicks because he was unable to shift quickly enough to collect the ball off a pass. This meant he had to rush the kick and was unable to get distance/height. He's honestly as bad as Haugaard if not worse, yet seems to escape the same criticism. He's got to go, NOW. Given was a very good keeper but that was too long ago.Sadly he's not the only problem. Given was a great keeper years ago and I thought he would be a solid backup, but he's not. He's past his best and it's time to say thanks, ta'ra.

I've just posted this on another thread but feel it is even more relevant here:
We have the poorest keeper in the league buy some distance.
When Butland returns we will have the poorest back up keeper.

Never thought I would say this but Brad Guzan was there for the taking.
Surely would have saved a couple of them yesterday and is 8 years younger.
