Cheddleton, lived here for 30 years now and would not move anywhere else. Our son(21) is saving for a deposit for a house in the village as he does not want to leave Chedd when he leaves home. Agreed. I can't believe I missed out Cheddleton, it's a lovely village and so much to offer. I should imagine you can buy a nice semi-detached there for £150K or even a small bungalow. Good luck to your lad in finding a nice property.

Just broaching the subject of affordability in nice areas, I'm led to believe that Stone is a bit of an old timers town as their children can't afford to live in the area. (An estate agent told me this ).

(An estate agent told me this ). It is a problem for young people trying to get on the property ladder nowadays, certainly wouldn't like to have to start again. It was a lot easier when we started to buy our house and more affordable choice.Take your point about area's becoming old timers area's.We live in Cheddleton and the surrounding houses are all owned by retired folk, infact we are in our late 40's and are considered to be youngster's.

My estate agent pal says that young people in Stone 'migrate' to Stafford and the bottom end of Stoke. You could work in a place like Lotus Shoes and live in Stone once, I think you'd have to be some kind of professional these days.

I agree with oldskoke's list. I would add Brocton south of Stafford on the edge of Cannock Chase. My parents retired to there and walk onto the Chase every morning. Really beautiful. But you won't find anything for 150K. No pubs, no shops, just doggers...

All hail the Brook. ST9 is where it's at. We've got everything a gentleman requires apart from the sea. There's a waiting list to get in though. I was lucky enough to buy a house in Werrington back in 2012. Love it! I grew up there & I never want to leave.

, or the villages between Newcastle and Eccleshall if you get lucky and don't mind the extra driving. Nice but £150k wouldn't get you much Sadly true. I was around Walk Mill and Copmere the other week, and Walk Mill House is for sale (including the mill pool) for about £895,000 I think. Beyond Eccleshall to the Shropshire border is stunningly beautiful.

Beyond Eccleshall to the Shropshire border is stunningly beautiful. I do a lot of riding around there and it is very nice. Drayton isn't that bad. Right on the edge of the countryside but all the amenities of a small town. Good and bad everywhere

Because they closed The Lord John Russell and with it went the duke box that played summer the first time while I quietly got rat arsed. Sorry to hear the Lord John has closed, I used to drink in there with my Granddad many moons ago , along with the Red Gate and the Park Inn ....happy days . Loved the Red Gate but always hit my head on the trophy cabinet playing pool =)

Biddulph Moor doesn't look too bad. Great views, 3 counties on your doorstep. Bet it's bloody cold in the winter though.

How about Keele Village? The ring road means the traffic no longer bombs through there and it has a nice village meets varsity vibe. Good shout. Madeley Audley Whitmore Baldwins Gate/Pipe Gate BlackBrook Hill Chorlton Onneley Audlem Woore Maer But then I'm a country boy....and really you've got to work on the Newcastle side of the area to make that location work. I am too, at heart anyway. "Let the thunder roll and the lightning flash I'm doing alright for country trash"

It depends what you are looking for. I grew up in the Lightwood/Meir Heath area. Some good views and easy access to town. Churnet valley villages of Froghall and Oakamoor also attractive. None of these places noted for nightlife however so it depends what you are looking for. I now live in the south Manchester suburbs and £150k. would not get you very much in these parts.

I'm quite happy here in Church Lawton. People are stuck up and frown upon my van. They also don't like the fact my cats shit on their lawns, and they have a very small-minded village mentality about them. It's like Vale Park but set in the country.
I'm all up for hostility me.
150k won't get you a tent round here mind!
(In b4 "Church Lawton is in Cheshire" ---- Agreed but it has an ST7 postcode!!)

You have to drive to Wildwood or Baswich to get the basics or into Stafford (or Cannock) for a full shop. There are a few pubs in the area: The Chetwynd Arms, Barley Mow in Milford, and The Wolseley Arms near Rugeley. The old man and lady don't go onto the Chase after dark!

There are some over inflated opinions of nice areas on here lol.
I'm not going to single anywhere out but I actually laughed at some of the suggested places.

People have different interpretations of what they think is idyllic. It might be close to roots, family, where they grew up, or just feel like "home". Come on - speak up, oh wise one.

You can't go wrong with Stockton Brook & Endon
Out of the way to still be close enough to access the major roads and railway stations. Nice, short drive into Leek.
Good local pubs and schools too.
£150,000 will get you 2 beds, for the same price you get 3 beds and a larger house in Badderley Green which is a nice suburb

Many things would come in to the mix when choosing. Quickly though, my own preference would be one of the small villages along the churnet valley. I'm just amazed at people's perception that's all.
