Do we think Shawcross has got even a small chance?
Sam is pre-disposed to like, or at least give an even break to him - and Stones went off injured?
Obviously he's gone/going through his worst run of form/fitness for 5 years, but he looked fine(ish) yesterday, so maybe he has a small chance?
Any other surprise contenders anywhere? It does feel like kind of a new dawn with no baggage
Defoe? Noble?

I would be amazed. I would think no chance at all.
Maybe in a few months.

I hope not, let's get him fit first, last thing we need is another star player injured with the national team.

I'd say Nobel and Defoe are pretty much nailed on. Possibly the Antonio chap from WHU, either way it's hard to predict.

I hope he gets a chance. He did well yesterday. Coming back from injury it could give him a real confidence boost

I don't think so. Normally if shock call ups happen, they're normally leaked to the press prior

Stones only went off with something in his eye, so he'll be in. Smalling, Cahill plus 1 I guess, or 2 if he is thinking 352. Slight chance for Ryan I'd say - competing with Davies, Jagielka.

If Stones is injured, the 4 centre-backs will be who, do we think?
Cahill Smalling (although he hasn't appeared as yet?) Jones (although he hasn't even been on the bench yet?) ????
Curtis Davies?
Am I forgetting someone obvious?

at international level i dont think he is good enough, premiership yes a solid player hopefully he can get 100% fit and get that chance but we may be dreaming a long while. its a very weak qualifing group england are in so who knows we need to build a solid england team before we go to the finals this time

To be honest, I'm not sure I want to see Ryan anywhere near the squad. I'm sure he's desperate for a call up but you only have to read some of the utter poisonous shite written and spoken about him to know that any small mistake will be pounced upon.
I'm not even sure a new manager can turn the tide of apathy for the England team right now. Including a player who's still ridiculed four years on because he couldn't stop Zlatan Ibrahimovich scoring a goal isn't going to help matters.

It would be a big surprise. I hope that Big Sam is open-minded though to potential call-ups in the future if/when Ryan gets a good run together and is back to where he was.

It'd be a bit dispiriting if 34-year-old Jagielka or Curtis Davies came up on the rails and got in front of him.
After 7 years of class Premier League defending, his timing for this rough trot of form could not have been worse when a Shawcross-friendly manager takes the helm

Yeah. You'd have to say Dann's a contender. (You just can't ignore a defender from a team with 2 wins in 24! )

I'd like to see Antonio, Vardy, Drinkwater and Noble. Defoe is a real goalscorer as well so wouldn't mind him.

For the first time in 5/6 years he doesn't deserve to be in it... Yeah, hard to argue. But it's only a question when you look at the other contenders (or lack of)

I like Defoe but we should be looking forward now, not at someone who'll be 36 when the next tournament starts. Drinkwater and Noble definitely deserve a place, not sure about Antonio though.

Am I forgetting someone obvious? Sammy Lee was scouting Michael Keane this week apparently. Wonder how Ryan wpuld take that if he signs for Stoke the following day?
