Our defending for their goal was shocking. Ryan needs a good hard look at himself.

hit it really well but keepr takes a step the wrong way just before he hits it , costly error , looked all over the place for theirs but good cross and centre forward play

Great skill to get the placement with whip and power on it.
A real confidence boost for him and he looked good after he'd scored and played more centrally. Unfortunately, it's an area where we have lots of quality players (Bojan, Allen, Imbula, Adam....Afellay etc) and don't have any other options on the wing. It took him a long time to get going last season, and a long time to get a goal. Hopefully he starts firing on all cylinders early on this season.

You could argue that the keeper should have done better, however that does not detract from a world class execution from Shaq, if other players who play for Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U or Man C had scored it you would be watching it this time next month.

When was the last time we scored directly from a dead ball free kick? (No lay offs or second ball) I'm struggling to remember

Didn't Bardsley score one last season in the league cup,a low one that went in off the post??

Our defending for their goal was shocking. Ryan needs a good hard look at himself. Exactly. Take everyone out and just head it over the bar or something.

Sobhi could well be a option in the not too distant future

Apparently Arnie v The Shit at OT. That was a lay off wasn't it? If I remember didn't someone, possibly Bojan, hit the wall with the first shot then Arnie slammed the rebound in
Just found vid - exactly that
I think though it would count as open play by then
This was our last free kick scored I think Terrible angle but all I could find
At least we wont have any threads now about not scoring from a setpiece

Beautiful peel away by Shawcross. They've obviously rehearsed that one. Lovely strike with a lucky shade. Mint. Set pieces are the future.

No "luck": Shaqiri's body shape conned the keeper into thinking he was aiming to his right. Hence the wrong-footedness. MOTD will claim it was an attempted cross...

Our defending for their goal was shocking. Ryan needs a good hard look at himself. Not just ryan mate its a car crash all round. No attempt at stopping the cross. Pieters totally unaware of his man at the far stick. Given could do better. And ryan and Wollscheid abysmal. Just an all round total cluster fuck of a goal
