I see Man City, amongst a few others have changed their badge more akin to their old one. Isn't it time we got rid of the unimaginative abortion we have now? If it's a brand recognition thing, I'm positive that no-one outside Stoke will know or give a single dusty fuck if we change it.

The current one is more than fine and synonymous with us in the top flight and what most people will know us by.

Our current badge is wank.
Most badges show some sort of connection to the area that the club's are from, ours looks like it's been designed by a 10 year old kid.
It needs changing back to something that symbolises our city.

If it's a brand recognition thing, I'm positive that no-one outside Stoke will know or give a single dusty fuck if we change it. Disagree with this. They would not recognise the old one since it doesn't say 'Stoke City FC', nor have 'The Potters' written on it. The whole point of the current badge is to make it instantly recognisable, which it pretty much is. I like 'Vis Unita Fortior' coat of arms so I wouldn't be against some kind of revamp that includes the clubs name and that slogan.

The newer generation of football fan (and I'm talking kids here) won't recognise what Man City's badge means either. But it won't take long for that to become 'Man City's badge'. Ours is a badge that speaks more about franchise rather than history- Like Fulham's, Arsenal's or MK Dons. I don't think that's a good thing. Even Vale's badge has been given more effort! If it was a little touch like what they did for the 150th anniversary shirt with 'Vis Unita Fortior' underneath would be a half arsed attempt but a welcome one. But yeah a crest that incorporates something old and something new instead of the unimaginative bloat we have now.

I'm not sure what the pale blue is all about? I guess this seasons away costume tips its cap to the sky blue on the badge, but it seems kind of the wrong way around, the badge leading the kit

Cast your mind back to just a few years ago when we 'rebranded' from the City coat-of-arms badge to the current one.
I for one like the clean cut lines of the existing badge and hits you straight between the eyes as being STOKE CITY.
IMO, to go back to the rather anonymous coat-of-arms would be a definite step backwards.

I can't see how it defines Stoke City at all. It's just a set of colours that are used by many other clubs. It is a truly dismal affair.

I've said this several times but I might as well say it again! There is NO WAY the club would ever go back to the old coat of arms badge for the simple reason that it is the City of S-O-T coat of arms and so can't be copyrighted by the club. because the club does not own the copyright they would be unable to take action against any shop selling a red and white striped shirt with the City coat of arms on it. So, going back to the City coat of arms would be financial nonsense for the club. I don't mind the latest badge although it would be vastly improved by the addition of the local emblems of the Staffordshire Knot and a bottle kiln. So I would not be upset if someone could persuade the club to revamp the badge to include those two elements. But, as y-oh-y says above, the simple lines of the newest badge do make the club more easily recognisable and I would not want t lose the clean lines - which also make the badge easier and cheaper to reproduce which also pleases the money men.

I don't see the same simplistic argument pointed at Real Madrid or Newcastle, which are both instantly recognisable and fairly busy visually. As said, the current badge is just a set of colours in a bloated shield. The only thing it conveys is lacklustre. I don't particularly like it but Vales new badge is a mix of old and new. I don't see why we can't aim for better. And it's fucking awful..
And by the way, not once have I nor anyone (yet) else made the request to the coat of arms.

As mentioned the badge needs help Staffordshire knot and a kiln on it.
They managed to put sir stan on the training academy one so why not the local emblems on the kit crest.

Take the 80s badge, replace the "SCFC" with the word "Stoke" and add the word "City" in smaller letters underneath and it's job fucking done.

Some sort of update on the 1980s badge would work fine IMHO; the older versions - and the one that made a brief comeback in the 1990s - that were based on the city's coat of arms are probably too fussy and complex for the digital age. But a simple quartered shield with a Staffordshire knot diagonally opposite a Portland Vase, with the other two quarters in red and white stripes (not gold and red like the 80s version), then some reference to 1863 and Vis Unita Fortior above and below it would be dandy.

I think going back to the old badge would be wrong, even if it was practicable, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be improved.
I also have an aversion to blue on the badge. I would like to see more reference to the character of the city, but it also needs to be simple and artistic. The worst thing would be something designed by a committee. ("A camel is a racehorse designed by a committee.")
A suggestion: would it be practicable to have a badge and a logo? A badge being a bit more elaborate than the present shield one, whilst a logo would be a more simplified version of the present badge by removing the date, the word "THE" and simply being the words Stoke City Potters on a red and white striped bottle kiln shape. (I'll get my coat!)
