In recent friendlies we saw a draw and loss where the result was deemed inconsequential as it was a fitness test for the squad.
Issue: Preston and Burton were building their fitness too
In the narrow win against Orlando last night all talk of fitness is out the window and the result is everything.
Issue: this is a little hypocritical and Orlando are fairly toss.
I'm tired and hungry so I'm putting this out there for debate.

It was a relief not to lose to a poor team and we did get on the front foot from time to time.

Sentinel headline: Orlando City 1, Stoke City 2 – MATCH DAY RE-CAP: Goals from Mame Diouf and Bojan seal win
First para: STOKE City have beaten sister club Orlando City 2-1 in Mark Hughes's third friendly of pre-season.
Should have read: STOKE City have raised their fitness levels against sister club Orlando City in Mark Hughes's third friendly of pre-season.

Which idiot think a result in a friendly is anything to talk about. It's all fitness that's all. It's not even tactics based as the amount of players used in friendlies the manager can not build up any kind of analysis on what's going on. It's basically running with a purpose.

Erm...an idiot like me. Playing three at the back exposed two serious weaknesses (or more accurately confirmed what we already knew). A) if we try that formation against a half-way decent team, we'll get clobbered. B) Wollscheidt is even worse when playing with three at the back than he is with four and needs to be replaced.

The Sentinel's one does talk about a '3-0 beating' though. You've got to compare like for like surely? Of course the club's website is going to be propaganda.

Assuming Sparky knows what he's doing he was testing three at the back to test and refute its effectiveness. That's right, yeah?

Yep I'm happy with my night's work
1 I'm a bore. 2 it's deemed acceptable to treat losses as fitness tests and wins as proof of readiness. 3 I'm working towards another star on my status. 4 most posters are still up for a keyboard scrap

I've been off here for a few months. You are definitely rusty, mate. Nobody has felt abused just a bit confused. Preseason results don't mean much. However, if you lose 3-0 to a poor team, trying a formation that didn't work is a cause for concern. Sparky's tried it twice in a row against much weaker opposition and been exposed both times. Definition of insanity is trying things over and over and hoping for a different result. Let's hope he's got the message.
