Just curious really, it's fair journey to go to Beijing and then the game gets called off on the day it's meant to be played.

I think its just one of those unfortunate things.
There are lots of other activities available, I would recommend a visit to the Ming tombs for example.

I just think it's a bit shit by the clubs to call off the game on the day, I imagine it was plainly obvious the pitch was in bad condition over the weekend.

Don't give a stuff. If they want to play each other in a pre season friendly play it in Manchester. Pre season tours have reached a point of excess beyond stupidity. Yeah I get the "monetising of the product" shite - but how much money do you need? Precious little if any will filter down to where its really needed in the game.
Hopefully a few more will be cancelled and they'll re-appraise the wisdom - and stop bleating about needing a winter break to get over the fucking jet lag.
Don't particularly feel sorry for the supporters - if you made the journey for that and that alone you've obviuosly got money to burn and tme to waste.

I would love for Stoke to broaden the brand and appeal to more cultures than just our own. It increases our fanbase and global appeal which can only be a good thing, I have absolutely no issue with pre-season friendlies taking place in other countries however I do agree that going off to the far east in international breaks etc. is shit.

And then your only one small step from game 39 - and once you're there it's no longer your team - all in the name of "broadening the fan base" - ie raking in some more cash. And who are we to undermine the development of someone else's league. Can't help thinking that back in the days of us being what is now League 1 we'd have been mighty pissed off if our gates for matches were down because Barcelona were playing Real Madrid in a friendly up the road.

There are no CSL games on today so they were undermining no teams. Should we stick to being lowly Stoke City from the Midlands then? I assume you're not a fan of the new signings we are making and would prefer us to field an English XI no matter the ability because it keeps the culture intact?

You don't need to take the whole team abroad to widen our appeal, just sign an Egyptian lol

But whilst we're on the subject I'd have preferred to see an in investment in developing English talent than pissing money up the wall with the signing of the likes of Texiera, Shea, Joselu or Arismendi. The point is not that Stoke shouldn't do it, I despise the notion that anyone should. It's not about quality, it's not even about investment, it's about cash, cash and more cash - and for the most part cash that it not spent particulalrly wisely. We can all have a dick measuring competition as to who's got the most and what ridiculous sums of money can be bid for the likes of Pogba (plus circĀ£20m to his agent - natch) - but where it actually matters we ain't that good. It's not only the national side that bombls out in international competition these days - club sides are hardly setting the place alight in European competition either. We might have the richest league in world but we sure ain't got the best teams. All games are televised globally - so concentrate on the day job and if you're successful at winning things then the "appeal to a wider fan base" will look after itself.

What about trying to develop our fan base in the Midlands? Local support is hugely neglected and undervalued by football clubs. The money that they invest developing global markets could help subsidise local people who cant afford to attend matches in their own community.

If we were ever whoring ourselves out so shamelessly, I think I'd give up on us. These pre-season money spinners are nothing short of pathetic.

To be fair the pitch didn't look the best. I wouldn't be happy with our players playing on there 3 weeks before the season starts.

Nothing new , except the money involved now huge by yesteryear so standards , well before the days of the Prem we were doing it , off the top of my head we've played in Argentina , Australia, New Zealand , played in a USA league , Russia , Malaysia , Africa , Hong Kong , the Carribean ..oh and the IOM..the list is almost endless Though I'd like to think of us as being an upmarket escort, whilst Man U quite clearly a disease riddled drug addict back street whore
