I speak from personal experience, I had back surgery some years ago on 2 buggered discs, I don't know what Ryan had done although reading reports at the time it seemed similar.
Whilst I am now reasonably mobile and not constantly in pain, just one wrong movement and it's agony for 24 hours until things settle down. I really don't think falling on your back causes injury unless a part of the spine is weak, sorry but this problem doesn't go away.
Most concerned that the word from Stoke is " not related to his previous problem " can't believe that, I really want to be proved wrong.

No surprise from me Pugs. If we get 3/4s of a season out of Ryan it will be a bonus.

Wouldn't begrudge a big bid for Michael Keane. At all.

No wonder we've slapped in a £4.25m offer for Sebastian Bassong. Incorrect.

According. To the manger ( mark and his team ) we are in the mix for several players and none are close is suggest thats possibly the best source of true ITK information we are going to get .
It's also clear from. Butlands comments re Redmond we have again struggled to get initial targets to sign for us v the competitor set so , so far in the mix has bought no reward .

I thought he'd be fit enough to be playing the first friendly, call me optimistic....... HA! Why? He obviously has inherent back problems and will struggle the rest of his career. Something I and a few others suggested sometime back only to be shot down. We need two top class centre halves - we've got no chance of getting them with the lazy arse fuckers that run the club. You were quite rightly shot down.He damaged a disc, and had surgery to rectify the issue. To say his problems are quote "inherent " is complete folly

We had centre halves coming out of our ears at one time. Now we have a manager who doesn't know what one is We did But we also had some rubbish ones Sonko and Danny Collins

Is it just me but considering it's only 2 months or so since Ryan came back from his previous injury I'd have thought it common sense to not risk him a month before the season starts if he is not 110%, maybe everyone should just take a chill pill.

Pretty sure I've read that Redmond is on £90k at Saints. I'd be a bit upset paying that kind of wage for unproven talent. Sure he has top flight experience but not exactly ripping up trees is he.

Hope your right. Friendlies, especially early ones, are just a run out. Results, tactics, line ups and performances are to be ignored utterly. However the fact that Ryan hasn't had a run out at very best is a concern. If he really is to be wrapped in cotton wool then we have no choice but to look at signing a very good centre back before the window closes.

Southampton don't pay 90k a week . When we don't get em it's always daft money etc .
We just have to accept that Right now others are telling a better story than us for whatever reason .contrary to what the CEO says there's plenty of evidence to suggest it's nothing to do with the fact selling clubs won't sell .

No offence but i'll trust my dog nevermind David Gold over you and he claimed Southampton were paying £100k per week to Charlie Fucking Austin. As for Redmond, Southampton can offer Europa League football next season, not having to compete with Shaqiri or Arnie for a starting place and the knowledge that a half decent season will see a multi million pound transfer (normally to Liverpool) in 12 months time.

I'm sure if there any serious doubts we will sign a good centre half or two but to get as good as Ryan is £10-£15m minimum and we're not at the stage yet of spending that on a player who will not start 80% of the time at least.

Not so confident myself, Hughes appears to be struggling to find proper CB's for us, Muniesa is injury prone (mistake prone as well ), Wolfy is just an accident waiting to happen, the other options are equally as bad without Ryan we will be up shit creek without the proverbial paddle as we were most of the time he was out last season, two proper CB's and a proven striker are the minimum requirement this season we can just about cope in the other areas unless of course we sell Arnie that is.

If Hughes doesn't bring in at least 1 defender i think the end of last seasons form will continue and Hughes will be sacked. A defender should be our main priority in this window

No wonder we've slapped in a £4.25m offer for Sebastian Bassong. Not a big one for stats or karma, but doing a lightning quick search for old Seb., I read this - "Norwich City defender Sebastien Bassong relegated for SIXTH time in his career as club are sent down again despite spirited win over Watford." Frig me. :/

I agree with one of the posters above in that you would be very very lucky to ever get back to anything like full fitness once you have had a serious back injury. Unlike other sporting injuries when you can be repaired and come back even stronger a back injury in my experience is a lifetime of problems.
