Don't see what's unfortunate about it. The people have taken to the streets despite obvious dangers to protest against what the military is doing. Turkey are proud of their democracy and are backing their elected leader it seems. Quite where they go from here to recover the situation is anyone's guess. Boris to the rescue... The photo you use isn't Turkey today. I think it's Morocco last year. What's a country between friends?

Not sure how relevant this is but I'll post anyway just in case it is. I've been to Kalkan on the south coast, the Turks were lovely people, very laid back, it killed dead my prejudices.

CIA replacing their puppet. "The US doesn't like coups because it's anti democratic" - BBC lol!!!! Jesus Christ and to think we have to pay to listen to this bollocks. this has the CIA written all over it, there have been rumours for awhile that the US was cooking up a coup in Turkey. Notice the US aren't immediately condemning it. Erdogan accused the US of being behind it in his speech he accused "Pennsylvania" code for CIA? It's shocking if true they're supposed to be a NATO ally. None of our news outlets have pick up on his accusation I wonder why?

None of our news outlets have pick up on his accusation I wonder why? There's some old Turk living in exile in Pennsylvania who Erdogan blames everything on. The most worrying thing for me is how the general population of Turkey came out onto the streets & faught for Erdogan & his Islamist rule. The Military wanted to give the people back their freedom & democracy but they shunned them in favour of terrorist supporting Erdogan... And this rabble will soon be joining the EU. Thank fuck we got out when we did.

It gives Erdogan the excuse to tighten his grip.

Tusk from the EU still keeping EU membership as an option depending on what happens after.
It will be many years before there will be stability unless it is a military dictatorship - which it is likely to be under Erdogan now.
Is that the kind of country the EU wants?

The photo you use isn't Turkey today. I think it's Morocco last year. Should've checked first. Dunno if you get it in OZ but the horrendously biased RT have got live images of lots of people coming out in protest and defying the curfew. Thing is these things happen and you get an initial barrage of information and nothing changes for an hour and in the confusion something false gets passed as fact. The first thing people hear about a situation is the thing they believe forever...perfect example being Hillsborough being caused by pissed up hooligans. People still believe that because it's what they heard first. Duckenfield admitted he lied on May 26th 1989 but it makes no difference to perceptions. Don't think RT is in Oz. Although I am currently in the UK.

Overall, the headlines on RT are no more biased than the BBC, but different in focus.
The talking heads tend to have a different perspective to the talking heads on the BBC, often more detailed and insightful.

I think the cynics and pessimists regarding Erdogan's authoritarian tendencies will be proven correct! Sadly! If you're going to organise a coup, at least do it properly? Why didn't the plotters ask the Parliamentary Labour Party for advice?
