No mentions of a new keeper. We all remember what happened when Butland got injured.Haugaard is not good enough and Given to old and injury prone.

You'd think so but doubt it will happen unless Given moves on to play a bit of football before he retires.

Top 3 priorities. Won't happen unless one move on

Can't see it.
We'll plough on with Butland-Given-Haugaard

Can't see it. We'll plough on with Butland-Given-Haugaard +1 - we need to hope and pray that Butland stays fit.

I thought Given did okay last season. He's a half decent backup. Jakob..... he's got a lot to learn, maybe too much in fact. I was one of his biggest backers and kept saying "give him another chance" but come the end of the season it was beginning to get impossible to defend him.
If we were going to get a good backup, I'd say look no further than the Championship. Someone like Alex Smithies would be a good shout. He's cheap, but he's always had bags of potential and at 26, it's not too late for him to find some late career form.

Can´t recall a decent save from Haugaard and all those goals conceded from long distance. He needs to go out on loan. If Butland gets injured long time we´re in big trouble.

Not concerned about the goalkeeper situation, I think people are writing Haugaard off too soon as well. Assuming his contract situation is sorted I think Daniel Bachmann is ready to step up as a number 3 if required as well.

Not a massive deal as long as Butland stays fit. If he's injured Haugaard is nowhere near good enough

Haugaard definitely needs a loan.
And Bachmann on loan still hasn't really cemented a place in the lower leagues and Bury (was it) essentially sent him back.
And Given when he played looked old and slow.
I think we need a good #2.

We probably need a number 2 who could move in immediately should Jack move on by Xmas. I suggest Carlgren from AIK Stockholm, from Swedens's u21 Euro winning team. He's 24 now,and hasn't benefited from the Swedish tendency to play people for too long, in his case Isaakson. While in Stockholm two others are worth a look. Ebenezer Ofori, 21, is a Ghanaian midfielder in the Alex Song mode. Makes mistakes (like Song) but a terrific prospect who I think was midfielder of the year in the Allesvenskan. Alex Isak an Eritrean with a Swedish passport is a 16 year old forward who might just be fantastic.

I'd say a new keep is probably pretty low on the list really, Striker, DM, at least one winger and a CB all bigger priorities tbh.

We've got bigger priorities.
And to be fair to Given and Haugaard, the whole team dropped in form when they played so it's not a fair reflection.

Failure to address this will not be forgiven so easily this season

Two, or even three, new centre backs are urgently needed. That should be the priority.

Boro have just signed Victor Valdes, missed out there but then again he isn't likely to want to sit on our bench is he really?

Top players don't think like that though when they look at clubs like Stoke do they, they think they can nail down a first team spot. The guy is an experienced Champions League Goalkeeper that has played for Barcelona at the very highest level. Some tit on here was trying to tell me the other night on here he was shit

If we are going to sign a keeper, I don't think we would need to spend massive bucks to do it. Theres some decent keepers in the championship - Marshall, Ruddy etc. Or we could try for one of Newcastles keepers, cant see them needing Krul, Elliot AND Darlow, they would all be upgrades on what back-up we have already to be fair.

So what you are saying is its not an issue because we need to replace Whelan? Or even give Whelan a rest now & again seeing as he's an ever present?

He needs competition at the very least, allowing for rotation.

Given had an outstanding last game against West Ham!!! In reality it's a game we should really have lost....that is, if it wasn't for Given & Whelan!!!

He was excellent in pre-season, which makes me think perhaps it was nerves or panic? I don't believe a talented goalkeeper goes from being half decent to totally fucking useless in the space of 90 minutes. As you say, a loan out to somewhere in League 2 or 1 would help, although it might crush his confidence as well
