There will never be a better central midfielder at Stoke, than Steven Nzonzi was As we are stating opinions he's already a better midfielder than N'Zonzi

Have to say when Imbula signed for Stoke in one of his first games, he looked pretty good. If I recall correctly he scored a great goal v Bournemouth at the Dean Court last season. He's had a season to develop in English top level football, so next season he might improve his performances further. As the original post says, he looks like he has potential.

He certainly has the potential to be even better than the Zonz, providing he works on the defensive side of his game and continues to adapt to the prem. What really impresses me about him is the fact that last season, despite being young and new to English football, he always looked to get on the ball and try to get us playing, whereas a lot of players in that position would try to avoid the ball or be scared in possession which says a lot about his confidence in his ability.

Technically I think Nzonzi is a marginally better player but that's splitting hairs as both are much more technical than you'd expect given their sizes, what is not in question is imbula is less aggressive in the tackle but far more aggressive getting the team moving forward as you have said. If he can understand the expectations of a centre mid is to chase, defend and pass much more than he is whilst continuing with his dribbling then he will be like a big new signing this summer instead of when we originally signed him. If he doesn't then we need to sell one of our attacking mids to compensate. Really hope it works and if anyone can do it at our club I really think it is Mark Hughes.

I am really looking forward to seeing an ever improving Imbula this season. He had to hit the ground running and although he understandably had some dips he never let us down.

I think he did well in his first half a season. I seem to remember a few games where our opponents fans remarked on how good he looked. I think he's one who will need a bit of love from the fans to get the best out of him. New league, new team mates, new language but still easily first choice cm. It could be suggested that is more a reflection of the quality of our current cm crop but truth be told if we sold Adam, Whelan, Afellay, Cameron, they would all get offers from Premier league clubs so not exactly cart horses. This guys problem is going to be consistency at the top of his game. He shows hes got it in his locker and we will want to see it every match, maybe judging him too harshly when it doesn't happen. The sad thing we need to accept is if he continues to improve we will quite likely lose him. If he doesn't i think criticism will affect him. Hope i'm wrong on both counts.

His main problem is when he hasn't got the ball. He has absolutely no idea what is going on around him. Thankfully with good coaching this can be sorted out. He needs to get fitter and learn the language. I hope to God he comes good but I really have my doubts about him.

Tbh I think imbula will come good, 80m or 8m some players settle quicker than others, we've seen glimpses of what he's capable of i think we'll start seeing the best of him by christmas when he has plenty of prem games under his belt in our system

I can't understand the comparison with N'Zonzi; they are chalk and cheese.
N'Zonzi was a mature player, could win the ball, was accurate with his passing, but was generally negative in his passing, and rarely ventured forward and when he did his shooting was poor (except last game for us!)
Imbula is naive, lost defensively, makes some bad passes, but is very positive, looking to move the ball forward passing and dribbling, and has a good shot and not afraid to use it.
Both players are comfortable with the ball. Imbula has a lot to learn but is young and has masses of potential.

N'zonzi was very good for one season and then packed his bags. So I really don't get this love fest. I can see Imbula making more of commitment because he seems to looking for a place settle. At least I hope so.
