I saw it on the news this morning. It's an example of unintended consequences. Hounds now have to be trained to hate foxes and rip apart, now that they don't get the opportunity to do it every weekend. I'm sure the bastards that fed the cubs to the dogs get jailed, but what will happen to the Hunt leaders? Fuck all I guess, as they got others to do there dirty work for them.

I always believed that if fox hunting was a stereotypical working class activity like whippet racing it would've been banned years ago. A gun is more likely to be more humane if culling is necessary
As Wilde said:
"The unspeakable in pursuit of the inedible"
There is something quite distasteful about the thought people take pleasure in this activity in this day and age. I have the idea that it's full of social climbers and wannabes, the hunting equivalent of the golf course for connections and deal making

This thread reminded me of an awful photo I saw in the John O' Groat Journal a few years ago. The photo was of a group of local men who each raised money for charity by killing land , river and air living wild life in one day. I suspect that the wildlife was a deer , a salmon and a wild duck. With so much to enjoy of the local scenery and wildlife up here in the far north of the Highlands I completely fail to understand how anyone can gain pleasure from killing wildlife.

Saw a fox a couple of weeks ago, on the A34 just by Dominos Pizza at Trent Vale. Only a youngster; beautiful animal. I got within arms length of it - it seemed a bit confused. Don't know how anyone could hunt them??! I kind of saw it across the road, watching out for the traffic - I'd have slowed anyone down if I thought it was in danger. Dissapeared into a hedge.
I can honestly say I wouldnt kill an innocent creature if you offered me a billion pounds. Would never prostitute myself.
The fox hunters & that mentality would gladly hunt humans if the opportunity arose!

One of my friends said that the fantastic Mr Fox came to do a random check on her chickens a couple of weeks ago. The good news is that she doesn't need to buy as much feed now.

I used to think trail hunting was a good compromise. It allowed people to ride horses with dogs through the countryside without needlessly tearing a native wild animal to pieces at the end.
Sadly, it seems it was just used as a smokescreen to permit actual hunting.
The National Trust has responded well. It's listened to its members who voted 2/1 in favour of a ban and acted accordingly. Sending the right signal like this will probably gain it new members as a result too.

I go to Boxing Day and New Years Day hunts (not riding but for social purposes) around Plymouth and they catagorically do not chase foxes. In fact over the last few years their popularity has increased because of the Fox killing ban which is a good thing for rural communities. I’m an NT member and voted postally against their ban. It’s a knee jerk reaction and they could easily have used other methods to stop illegal hunting on their land. The bottom line for their ban is that it will be impossible to police it and the law will not be broken if trail hunts cross their land.

The bottom line for their ban is that it will be impossible to police it and the law will not be broken if trail hunts cross their land. I'm sure you're right, Lawrie, so take out your frustration on whatever his name was who was doing precisely that and led to the NT issuing the ban. I would have thought trespass by forty odd horses and dozens of hounds would be a fairly easy civil case to bring, especially with anti-Hunt activists knowing precisely where NT land is and with access to drones to film any hunts which ignore the ban. Like I said, it's a shame because I did think it was a good compromise initially, and it's great that your hunts didn't chase foxes, but I can't say I'm at all surprised that the kind of subterfuge practised by whatever his name was has been proven in a court of law to go on.
