Just too young to see him in the seventies but was there in the eighties , never forget the " look out huddys back " banner draped above the butler st paddock . The turn around that season was truly amazing , the guy could hardly run but what an impact , he just got the whole team playing overnight . Was at Chelsea when we got beat 7-0 after we got promoted , at half time Chelsea were parading some legends to the fans , Huddy didn't wave once to the Chelsea fans but when he came round to our corner he just went mental cheering and clapping the stoke fans , absolute legend happy birthday

My Owd Man has been watching Stoke since the early 60's and reckons Huddy is on a par with Sir Stan and Denis Violet as the best players he has seen play for the mighty Potters.

My footballing inspiration as a youth.
I consider myself fortunate to have seen him play at his best.

Although I was abroad for most of the seventies and early eighties, I was back in 73 and 74 to witness Hudson in his prime. It was an unforgettable experience and lit up the Victoria Ground with breathtaking skill and control unwitnessed since Stanley Matthews at his peak. It is sad that it lasted so short a time, but it did seal the reputation of Waddo as the finest manager in the history of the club.

Attachment DeletedAs the Daily Mirror headline said when he came to us, "A STAR IN STRIPES" Happy birthday Huddy, there's been none to match you since.

Did Hudson ever take any coaching courses? Thought he could have been a decent coach for us.

I'm sort of glad in a way that he never became our manager, because the financial situation of the club at the time would have meant that he would have been on a hiding to nothing . Much better that we retain the memories of his wonderful playing skills and the legendary status he holds with Stokies.
