You have to be on the job longer than Shaqiri usually is for it to matter!

Watching him last night it was easier to be more objective than watching him for Stoke
Strengths he has great vision and can knock some super balls through pretty quickly
Weaknesses , he tends to not break quickly enough when his team has the ball , there were a few times where he should have made runs but didnt move
He also does not seem able to beat a player which I thought would be a great strength of his game when he came
He has to be a shadow of the player that got the reputation that saw him end up at Bayern .
Personally I hope we can get our money back for him because I don't believe he wants to be at Stoke , but if Hughes can get him going then fair play

What's all this "he's playing with poor players!"
Switzerland have better players than Stoke have, Xhaka (30 million players Arsenal just signed), RB plays for Juventus, LB been linked to Man City for 25million and played in this seasons champions league, embolo linked as a 30 million pound striker!

Since I had no other interest in a very dull game I watch Shaq intently and thought he did quite well, specifically in the second half (no one really looked like much of anything in the first). Main weakness is not always working back to help recover possession when the Swiss lost it. And this game seemed reluctant to run at his man with the ball, possibly because of the criticism he got for not keeping possession in the previous games. Going forward he made a bunch of runs into space and did not see the ball. He was not always open but it did several times serve to pull the defense open. His teammates most seemed content to not run into those spaces.
Overall I thought he was solid, nothing extraordinary but still pretty good. With better players around him will do well for Stoke this year I believe.

Xhaka is severely overrated in my opinion (as I think Shaq has been in the past, but that has settled down). The other two are defensive and only occasionally are the ones picking out any runs or supplying the ball to the front.

If Shaqiri had a terrible game then so did Xhaka because he did the square root of fuck all as well. Embolo looked decent in that he's quick and powerful but he didn't look like 30 mill player.

First time I've seen Embolo play and I thought he was awful. Every time he picked up the ball he just ran into a defender. His touch was pretty poor too. He's still only 19 though and has definitely got all the right attributes (pace, strength etc) to be a monster of a striker.

Yeah Embolo was dire and just made it very easy to be marked with poor movement, poor touches and just didn't pose a threat.
