Must be quite nerve-wracking when they start ripping the pitch up. As they have to sow the new pitch from seed, they must be terrified that there are going to be monsoon conditions lasting until August. I remember getting worried when I once sowed quite a small lawn, I'd have been terrified if I had to sow an acre and hope it was fit enough to play on by mid August!

That's a lot of under floor heating to go down. Bit dearer than your average semi.

True, but i imagine all the high powered lamps they have helps the seed grow pretty fast, ive driven past a few times in the winter and they have the orange lamps covering the pitch some nights

True, but i imagine all the high powered lamps they have helps the seed grow pretty fast, ive driven past a few times in the winter and they have the orange lamps covering the pitch some nights Oh yes, light is not a problem - it never was a problem when I sowed my lawn from seed. But too much rain and too many rainy days, do make seed sown lawns/pitches problematic. I presume they will be satisfied there is a decent medium term forecast whilst the seed germinates. If that turns out to be wrong and too much seed gets washed away then, presumably, they would have to go for a turfed pitch which would not, of course, be the hybrid of grass and plastic which they are currently working to produce.

Lol, they don't plant seed for this kind of thing. Seeing as we are getting a mix of real and synthetic there will be huge rolls of turf that will be brought in and laid by machine. There are lots of videos on YouTube showing how stadium turf is laid.

There are lots of videos on YouTube showing how stadium turf is laid. We've always sowed the pitch "in situ" since we moved to the Brit and I know that the system we are using from now on injects the artificial strands into sand in which the grass seed is germinated. I've seen a graphic illustrating the method. What wasn't made clear was whether the hybrid turf was created "in situ" as we have done before - or created off site and then moved (as turf) on site. Both systems seem to be in use for hybrid pitches. Time will tell - it looks as if they are going to produce weekly time lapse videos of the process of creating the pitch.

Is the strange manoeuvre around the centre spot something to do with Sir Stan's ashes?

Every time I seed my lawn, the fucking pigeons come and polish the lot of it off before it grows....Lets hope they don't have the same issue!

According to one of the ground staff down Stoke pitch will be laid 3 weeks before the season starts and it only takes 10 days to mature so plenty of time yet.

Jaysus. It's just a bit o' grass! Interwoven. Artificial. Fine fescues. Light lamps. Just chuck some old rye seeds down and get a couple of old goats!
