Thorne was o'rate...but, for me, he just wasn't in the same mould as Stein, Sherron and Fuller....BUT, that's only "MY" opinion, before anyone starts!!! Thorney bagged 30 in one season. Who was the last player to do that before him? Legend. Fair point....what division was it in???? Like I said, I thought he was okay, but not quite there with Stein, Sherron or Fuller, BUT again, that's MY personal point of view, obviously not yours, good for you!!! Oh, and the answer to your question is Stein!!!!

Mark Stein was an instinctive goalscorer and certainly among the top 5 best for Stoke I have seen. But who is this "golden one"? Steino was always known as the "Goalden one" As Bertie Biggins will always be known as the BRONZE one, for other reasons than football though!!!!

There is simply no comparison. That isn't to belittle Thorne in anyway. He was great for us. Mark stein was very special and for stokies of a certain age, he will be the best player they've seen in a stoke shirt.

If you get the chance, watch his goals on YouTube....if you haven't already!!!!

Steino is my favourite Stoke player ever. I was a young lad watching him down the Vic. Got so many happy memories of watching him. He was the first player i remember seeing who truley got me so excited everytime he got the ball. And i know we have had so many bigger games since, but the Man United match at the Vic is still up there with my best ever Stoke matches. That night Steino was unbelievable. Same here mate, although we are in the top flight now, the early 90's was my favorite era supporting Stoke. We had a good team, Lou, the Vic and standing terraces, huge away followings. Sadly, football then became the business like cash cow it is now.

There's only one (blurry) picture of Steino coming on for Ric, I hope someone capitalised on it as it'd make a bloody great photo.

LOL @ my grandkids. They'd never heard of Steino and couldn't believe how small he was, so on the way home my lad told them to google some of his goals for us on their phones. They were gobsmacked that they'd just been watching the finest forward and most loved player at Stoke since the days of Waddo's legends. Now they're feeling dead proud that they actually got to see him. These things matter. Thank you Wilko. OS.

It was good of Charlie and Shaq to lend him their shirt and shorts...
Great to see him back and looking well. He is still definitely the standout player for me in the 40 years I have been following the team. Very nice to see Simmo as well, one of the few players in our recent past who had the opportunity at one time to move onto bigger things but chose to stay at Stoke.
Big shout for Crouch and Bardsley, two players who would not have played with Wilko a great deal, for turning up and playing their part

Went last night to show my respect for Wilko and to see my absolute all time hero in a Stoke shirt.....there's only one STEINO. It's been said many times but there was something special about supporting Stoke in the early 90's. It made you proud and feel 10 foot tall when you turn up at Leyton Orient on a Tuesday night for quarter final Autoglass tie and there is over 2000 Stoke there....I still believe our away support in that era was up there with the best in the country including the top flight....

That goal against Vale when the away end erupts is special, the times I've watched that over and over and over again just to see that one point when Butler runs down the wing, crosses it in, and Stein hits it on the half-volley "BANG" into the net...and the away end just erupts, it's awesome!!!!

Just at Stoke station and Steino's on the platform. He played it cool about meeting me. I was on that platform as well. Had a 10 minute chat with him and a picture. I was toatally and utterly star struck. What a player he was. Easily the best I've seen in a stoke shirt Up until we signed SJW maybe.

A shame we never bought him back beyond his loan spell in 1996/97. I remember him and Sheron ripping Charlton's defence apart when we won at the Valley that season, likewise when we beat Swindon and Steino scored twice (just found the goals from that game below). With Sturridge out injured that could have been 'SAS 2'
Even after Sheron had gone imagine if we had Stein alongside Thorney instead of spending those wages on Paul fucking Stewart. Given he ended up at Bournemouth I doubt he was out of reach. He scored 44 goals over two seasons with Bournemouth while playing in the same Division we were struggling in!
