Anybody who questions Ryans importance to our team is a complete fucking bell end who also knows piss all about football. I'm not questioning his importance to the team but that's the umpteenth mistake he's made since his return. Surely we must consider dropping him for the next game. I'm of the opinion that the bloke isn't 100% fit. Whether he is showing up in training as fit I don't know, but the Ryan we're seeing at the minute is nowhere near the player that we know as being the finest centre half Stoke City have had for a very long time.

The lad has been rushed back into a site when clearly unfit. To start having a pop at the skipper after how much football hes missed is quite frankly pathetic. So we should just accept the pathetic mistakes he's making as part of the game? He's letting down the rest of the team at this moment. And play who? We've got nobody better to play. The buck has to stop with the manager for his pure stupidity of ignoring the fact we needed sign a defender in Jan.

I would say just go back to that formation.

We need to simmer down a bit and see if things settle down. We all know a fully fit Ryan and how good he is. We all know what he's been through. This year has been a write off for him. He's trying to play catch up at whatever percentage fitness he's at - impossible.
The worry comes if he's performing like this after a solid pre season of fitness work where he's at 100%.
That can be saved until August.

The thing that worries me most is his decision making. It's fucking awful. Even when he's got no pressure on the ball.

Christ, the worms are turning tonight. There really are some nasty bastards around. Wharever Ryan's recent faults and problems he deserves a bit more respect than some of the bollocks being spouted by a few deluded, agenda driven nutters.

Shawcross has had a poor spell recently by his high standards but his contribution over the last 8 seasons has been exemplary and crucial - we would have been back n the championship ages ago if it weren't for him.
Some of the pathetic comments on this thread are shameful and those spouting such shite will hopefully sober up....

Jesus all I was questioning is whether he should be dropped for the next game considering his recent poor form? You're making it seem like I want him out of the club. Ryan is imo one of the all time great Stoke defenders make no mistake about that but that doesn't mean he's immune to criticism.

I just can't believe what I'm reading when people are turning on Ryan Shawcross and saying he's average at best and needs replacing. He's been shocking for a few games after being rushed back into the team. He had major surgery in the summer yet when he did return he was the catalyst for an upsurge in form that had us all dreaming of even breaking into the top 4 at one point!
Yes he's not been himself but it's pretty clear why that is. Let's not forget that this is the man who puts world class strikers in his pocket for fun. Until this uncharacteristic blip I can only remember Suarez giving Ryan hell, and that is certainly no insult to our imperious captain.
Let's also bear in mind that Ryan was playing with an ever worsening back injury for all of last season, and despite that he was still our most important player.
I can accept it when a quality poster like trouserdog says we may need to find a replacement because I know the guy is smart so he clearly means in case Ryan is never able to recover from his injuries. But when some are trying to claim Ryan Shawcross, our leader, our longest servant and the greatest and most important player in Stoke City's modern history, is and has always been a poor defender, then I'm sorry but I lose any respect for that poster's input because it's clear to me that posters trotting out these sorts of sentiments have goldfish brains and can only analyse a few seconds either side of the present.

This. Is its just coincidence that his worse performances in a Stoke side - in all the years we've been watching him - have come when he's come back from a bad injury, and when the team have barely enough fit defenders to put out a defence? The penalty he gave away at Man City summed it up: he saw the man free on the edge of the area 4 yards away from him and he pointed to him rather than move the 4 yards to pick him up. A fit Ryan just takes control, he was more like me with a bad back pointing for one of the kids to pass me the remote when it's two feet away from me.

Actually CP, whilst I don't agree with your slightly extreme reaction it's not you I'm referring to as a nasty bastard so apologies for including you in that category'. Nor do I feel you're agenda driven. I think you've gone too far with your original post but there's clearly one poster on this thread who is obviously disturbed and it's not you.

With stop start seasons for many of our players, I think a good rest and come back fit and raring for pee season applies to most.

Shawcross had such an understanding with Huth ,that's why they were so such a formidable partnership ,and I thinking that Shawcrosses short comings were not so obvious with Huth alongside as they are now with the likes of Wolshied,Muni,Cameron...Shawcross has to get the decisions right as he is the captain and leader..no Huths experience to fall back on ,only the afore mentioned players who all have mistakes in their own games..for me Huth helped Shawcross immensely ,he's getting pulled out of position far too often, and just looks like he has lost his confidence in a poor defence...that's why we look like conceding goals in every game.....

Completely disagree.
He can't twist and turn and that's clearly down to what he's been through. He looks shagged!

Based on his movement & the runs he makes throughout the games he looks match fit. But I think it might be a mentality thing at this stage. It's never easy coming back from the long injuries that Ryan has been through this season. Some players never do come back. But if that's the case then the only way to get over it is by playing more games. I don't know him so I can't say. Hughes does so I'll trust his judgement.

We have to assume that he just needs a rest over the summer and go from there. I'd still like us to sign 2 first-team quality centre backs though just in case. The truth is Fergie fooled all of you. average at his best. Looked good in a Pulis team to people who don't know what a good centre half is This must be a wind up.

I agree with you,he should be match fit by now,it looks like whatever problem he had with is back has restricted is movement,Alan Brazil had to retire at 28 with a similar problem,if Ryan cannot get back to is best then he should retire at the top and not risk any further damage to his back which will be with him for life.

Just by looking how poorly he is playing tells me he is not match fit. A fully fit Ryan Shawcross doesn't play like he is at the moment, that's a given and not too hard to understand if you've been watching Stoke for any length of time. The one thing I do agree with you, is that I share your concern about him never getting back to full fitness due to his back trouble, which could mess the rest of his career up big time.
