He's got to stop that free kick from the position he's in His positioning was terrible that was the problem. and so was the wall he set up, should have gone 2 yards further to the left

I've defended Haugaard, far more than the majority of people on this forum. I've suggested repeatedly that we stick with him, and when he was dropped, I called for us to give him another chance, and I've argued that the panic over his initial performances was unreasonable. I've referred to the games pre-season where he seemed to impress.
The problem is, he's now digging his own grave. He's becoming indefensible. The first goal was not his fault on Saturday was not his fault, but the second was just atrocious. He was so flat-footed and seemingly unsighted by a wall that he positined. He looked uncomfortable all game, like an outfield player who had been shoved in goal.
How can you continue to back a keeper who is making errors in every game? I have to believe that Jakob has potential, because he was recommended by Tommy Sorenson, who himself was an excellent goalkeeper. My opinion is that next season, he should spend on loan at somewhere in League 1 or 2. He can re-build his confidence, gain experience in the English game, and hopefully improve.
As for our backup, we can only hope that Shay Given will pen another 1 year contract. Are there any other keepers near the end of their careers we could sign on a free? Just in case Shay doesn't sign a contract?

Given's apparently contracted until 2017.
With Haugaard, it'd be a surprise if you could uncover a gem for £600,000 in this era (although Mahrez would argue!)
Can only think it was seen as a cheap and cheerful punt and we never really saw him being in a position where it'd bite us on the arse

There are plenty of gems with raw talent, it's all about uncovering them. Jakob was excellent in pre-season and you have to hope he'll bring that form back, but he seems to be a totally different keeper.

A keepers game is all about confidence and he currently has none. That transmits itself to the back for and problems the ensue.

Sometimes so called Stoke fans embarrass themselves. Jakob is a third choice keeper still learning his trade, if he is unfortunate enough to read this thread then at the very least he will disappointed. The fact is he shouldn't be in this position, he should not be playing regular premiership football and he wasn't expected to. Sadly like the Hughes out brigade people contributing (?) to these pages seem to forget the difficulties this team has gone through this season. We have had injury after injury throughout the campaign, we have had short term injuries and long term injuries that have meant we have virtually never had a full strength eleven to field. To lose two international keepers to injury is rare and the consequence is that we have the need to field a young inexperienced 'keeper. I have never booed The team, I have never booed an individual player or manager. Instead of getting on his back let's encourage him and support him, Hughes is not stupid if he believes Jakob is not good enough then he will let him go but whilst the kid is here we have to make the most of it and show him respect. This season has not been a failure, we have been very unlucky with injuries, we are still a team in the stages of evolution, give them a break.

I think AlliG has hit the problem on the head. You expect an inexperienced keeper to make some poor decisions and sometimes get his positioning wrong; but you also expect them to pull off some good reaction saves and I've not seen that in Haugaard.

Got to feel for the kiddy really. Clearly not ready/up to it but we have no realistic choice but to play him. I hope to god he doesn't happen upon this thread, it's not exactly going to be a boost for his (already probably very bruised and battered) confidence going into the last game.

Send the lad out on loan and get two decent back up keepers into the club.
If the best of Haugaard is still to come it won't arrive by more of the nightmare performances he has given (excuse the pun) this season.

Whilst I haven't seen enough of Haugaard to say that he's the worst ever, or whatever, and I'm sure he's not...he does have the air of a Gordon Marshall about him. Saves the type of stuff any goalkeeper would, then found wanting on the stuff any goalkeeper should. Not sure agree with your Gordon Marshall analogy. I seem to recall that Marshall's problem was exactly the opposite of what you mentioned. The ability to concede a goal even when the ball wasn't actually going in. Tips it round the post with one hand then punches it in with the other. Never thought I'd have to watch that again - thanks YouTube

Haugaard is in truth most likely yet lamentably not good enough.
That said, he's come in at the back end of a season, with the defenders already on the beach and following up to one of the best keepers I've ever seen in a Stoke shirt, he's on a hiding to nothing.

Get the lad in from the under 18's, he came from Southampton, he is exeptional and better than Bachmann and Haugaard

Marshall once caught a cold, he only had for a few seconds though, he couldn't even hold onto that.

2 points against Swansea. Humiliation at a Liverpool team that were there for the taking, which put us in a shit mess going into the Spurs and Man City games. Now an easy point against Palace.
Butland's injury on England duty completely ended our season, I hope we had hefty compensation from the FA because it's probably cost us a fight for 7th/8th on the last day of the season instead of a struggle to stay in the top half. It's £1.25M per place this year.

I'm not reading through 7 pages of tripe but after the Blackburn cup game last season, I'm pretty sure most people were saying that Butland would never amount to much at Stoke too. Give the poor guy a chance!
