Bojan plays behind the striker, it's the one role in the team that doesn't require any defending, so chipping off at him for that seems unfair. There was a point earlier in the season where he was badly struggling and rightly out of the team. He's been desperately unlucky to be dropped of late just as he was finding some form though, and god knows what he thinks of finding himself lower down the pecking order than a player signed to play an entirely different role. Hughes surely has big plans for him though and with a full pre-season behind him he should remind everyone next season exactly what a star he is. If he doesn't, something somewhere is seriously wrong, either with him or with us. This mentality is one of the main reasons why we're not higher up in the table. Football is a team game. Everyone has to contribute when we attack & likewise everyone has to contribute when we defend. Bojan virtually plays like a second strike & we don't have a power house engine in the midfield like Nzonzi to play 4-4-2 effectively anymore. When Bojan stays up the pitch, every single time we're left 3v2 in midfield. 2 of United's goals at Old Trafford were conceded in this manner, similarly Liverpool's second was a result of this 3v2 matchup in midfield. Just look at how many goals we've conceded this season, add to that the fact that butland had made the most number of saves in the league when he got injured, it' clear that teams are creating too many chances against us. Whelan, Adam, Affelay, Van Ginkel, Imbula none of them have the pace & stamina to play in a 2 man midfield. Nzonzi did. I have the exact same problem with Imbula as well but he can do one thing that Bojan can't. He can hold up play & release pressure when we're pinned back. Bojan is not an outlet. The truth is he's a very creative player & we can use his creativity from time to time but there's 2 sides to a game & if he doesn't help the rest of the team out defensively then he can continue to stay on the bench. If he's pissed off at the club, the he can fuck off. No one's forcing him to stay at Stoke. Hughes has every right to drop Bojan & I've been calling for it long before he did. Everyone has a soft spot for Bojan but that doesn't mean he should be judged by different standards. No player is bigger than the team. We attack together, we defend together. That's how Leciester won the league.

It's the one position in the team where you can get away without it. I don't agree that Imbula's a better option in that position or about Liverpool's goals either.

It worked last year because last year we had Nzonzi who covered a record breaking 260 miles in 40 games, which was not only the highest in the league last season, it's one of the highest distance covered stats by a single player in the premier league era. Nzonzi did the work of 2-3 people even which is why we didn't feel like we ever needed to play a 3 man midfield last season & Bojan was free to do whatever he wanted. We don't have that this season which is why teams create so many chances against us.

Everyone gets a little worked up about the need to track back. Bojan does track back, he is actually pretty ineffective in this role in much the same way as Mahrez and Lamela are, but he does nevertheless track back. The secret being you have to really look like you're busting a gut to track back, a bit like Super Jon. Bojan does fail at this point sadly.

Did you watch the Leciester game against United? Mahrez did a lot of defending throughout the game, in fact that's what he did most of time. And as for Lamela, he's shite at tackling & gives away far too many fouls but he does put a challenge in & he won't let you run past him effortlessly, unlike Imbula & Bojan.

And Nzonzi's defensive work was far from the strongest part of his game, though it was undeniably better than the current incumbents. The problems defensively in midfield have been because players like Imbula and Afellay in the deeper role haven't got the hang of the off the ball stuff yet. Teams have created a lot of chances against us a lot of the time because we've conceded the first goal and then left a lot of space to be picked off on the break. The high line we play is ludicrous, we don't have the players for it.

I think it depends on the game. At the minute it'd be drop Imbula irrespective though. That was a bit of a general comment though showing where I think (area wise) his best uses are. No point in dropping Imbula. Isn't playing well, but he needs to be bedded in. That was if Afellay was fit. I agree though, got to play Whelan Imbula Bojan 2 games to get the start of what could be an excellent midfield running.

Imbula SHOULD be the replacement for Nzonzi but he needs to up his workrate and tracking back of midfield runners. There is a definite lack of WORK ethic in the team as a whole, its the complete and utter reversal of a Pulis team which was all work-rate with little skill. We need to find a balance somewhere in the middle to be most effective.

My point is that Mahrez, Lamela and Bojan do get goal side when the opposition attack, they are fucking useless but manage to hold up the opposition so that the team can regroup and reshape. My even more pertinent point is that none of them are included in the starting 11 because of their defensive attributes.

So it isn't the last few games then? Its the whole season where by your own admission, the manager overplayed him...this despite the fact that bojan himself, allegedly wanted to play more because he was free from all injury issues. Seems like mr bojan, according to you and the article, wants his cake and wants to eat it as well. He must be great for team morale and a super character to have in the dressing room. Mind you, he has played like he'll play when it suits him to play which I suppose backs up your thoughts. If you are correct, and mutley and the article are correct, he's symptomatic of why the last few games have been abysmal. If he's so unhappy at his treatment, hand in a transfer request and fuck off back to some other foreign outpost where he will struggle to settle again. If this is true, it seems to me that little bojan has every excuse going for being crap. Its never his fault. Fortunately, I doubt any of it is true. He was happy enough to sign a new 4-5 year contract only a matter of weeks ago. Considering you don't think the article is true you seem pretty keen to stick the boot into Bojan. Strange. I'm not sticking the boot in at all. I am merely saying that if the article were true it doesn't reflect well on him given his own form and contribution this year. I'm pretty sure bojan knows he's not been at his best and when signing a new contract only a few weeks ago, he went to great lengths to say how he trusted the manager and club. The story is bollocks. Scare mongering at its best.

Dropping him of late is another decision that does not stand up to the slightest scrutiny and just adds the muddled thinking mess Hughes has unfathomably got himself into since the turn of the year.

7 goals isnt a bad return considering he has only started 21 games. But people think hes not very good? Baffles me on a full season he is hitting 12-13 goals on average. Creates alot more on his day than affelay, not that im slating him cause hes a cracking player

Id love to stick up for him but his touch is absolutley awful, league 2 standard, no composure and only seems to score when it hits him or he has no time to think.

He just can't do it, on his own anyway.

Each to their own I suppose. I argued long and hard that as our best player, we should play him every game for as long as he could last believing the more he played the quicker he would return to form and fitness. I'm not sticking the boot in. I'm saying if this article happened to be true that it doesn't reflect well on him. He failed at barca because senior players, namely ibrhimovich, undermined his confidence, then guardiola did likewise. He failed at Roma because of the buy back clause meaning he never felt like a Roma player. He then failed at Ajax because he was played out of position and now, if you believe the article (which I don't) he is failing at stoke because the manager isn't playing him often enough. Against that backdrop of excuses, I'm sure you can see where I'm coming from. If true it is yet another player who feels he somehow has a divine right to play regardless of what he produces on the pitch. I don't care how good a player is, and bojan at his best was a joy to watch, if a player has that attitude, I'm happy for them to fuck off. I was happy for begovic to go and if this were true (and again I don't think it is) I'd be happy to see the back of him as well. As it happens, I'm looking forward to seeing the little maestro back to his best again next season.
