The reason I ask this question is because today Shawcross and Cameron looked like a pair and imo it's our strongest partnership who seemed to compliment each other's game today. That said they were shit

Wait, are you saying Cameron and Shawcross were good, okay, or shit?
Was Sparky right to drop Wollscheid? I think he had to make at least one change with the centre back partnership after we allowed 12 goals in 3 games.

Yes but he put the wrong man next to Shawcross. Geoff did play very well until the penalty but when we finally have the chance to use our best CB partnership (Shawcross + Muniesa) why don't we use it?

After Wollschied's last 3 performances yes he was right to be dropped as well as Muniesa. My point also was some people will come back with they were shit so it's hard to judge Ryan and Geoff today so i'd stick with it in the last 2 games and see how it goes

Yes, whilst he hasn't been as bad as some keyboard warriors think, against Defoe he would have been skinned!

If Wollschied had played like Cameron today but gave that silly penalty away then you'd have a hissy fit.
Agenda.

By dropping him he has pinned all of the blame on his shoulders despite moaning in the press about all the team not defending right.
He did the same to Haugaard a few weeks back.
Piss poor management.

Not really no - and to compare Geoff's performance against what Sunderland offered today against the attacks Wolly has had to deal with recently isn't fair.

No. Sunderland were shit and offered fuck all until Wollscheids replacement gave away a penalty.
Cameron had a decent game to be fair but Wollscheid should have played today. He wasn't the worst culprit at centre half last weekend.

100% right to drop him. I'm not a fan of Wollscheid at all and would happily drive him back to Germany myself. However he has had some decent games for us. I think he's far too slow and weak. Cameron athleticism was far better today next to ryan. Ideally we want a new abdoulaye faye but God knows where he is

Definitely. We need a pacy centre half who can stay fit. Too many of our players are far too fragile.

Geoff is very athletic, however if he is to be moulded into a partner for Ryan he needs far more games in the position as he lacks discipline in the box. By that I mean he tends to dive in a bit where just showing them to the line would be a better option.
But he does have some pace and strength about him.
Another thing no one has asked is Does Geoff want to play in that position? I thought he preferred midfield.

And it could be argued that Defoe ran our front two ragged, creating numerous chances for himself.

Actually Wolly reads the game quite well. - better than Geoff who does the best he can but gets some real rush of bloods to the head. So the assumption Wolly wouldn't have made a better fist of it is totally subjective.

Neither Wollscheid or Cameron are good enough but in my opinion Cameron is slightly less shit. He still did his classic trick of playing generally well then throwing away his good work with one costly mistake.
Both need replacing in the summer though, at least one front line centre half needs bringing in.

Post match comments suggested he rotated them, for Geoff's mobility to counteract Defoe.
Wolly will be back.

After conceding 12 in 3 games clearly changes had to be made.
In fairness he could have left out either centre back.
Having Pieters back helped and Bards was solid too.
Of course we all know if Wooly had put in that tackle on Defoe the likes of Bexhill and Carps would have been foaming at the mouth.

If Wollschied had played like Cameron today but gave that silly penalty away then you'd have a hissy fit. Agenda. I totally agree. I think Wollscheid, and Cameron too, will always be slated by certain posters on here, whereas Shawcross will always get a pass. That being said, a change needed to be made after how poor both Shawcross and Wollscheid have been in the last 3 games, and Hughes decided to keep Ryan in there, which isn't surprising, him being captain and all.
