Buy a few soprano records, so you can sing along =)
Not for me EVER, one small slip would leave me with internal injuries =)

Don't take it personally when the doc says "Now, here's just a little prick"

Where I am it's the norm, but I'd rather avoid it really so good to get some feedback that the pain isn't too bad under local - there are a lot of horror stories online...

Had it done a couple of years a go under local anaesthetic at the GP's. 15mins he got the job done, no real pain but a bit of bruising for a week or two. Back in work the next day. The build up is worse than the actual procedure.

My brother had it done a few years back. He couldn't have a hot bath for a few days. As has been said, just a bit of soreness and minor bruising. Bit like when you first discover internet porn.

Who here's had the snip? Any advice/tips/guidance for a gent giving it consideration? I had it done when I was around 31, then about 5 years later the marriage broke up. So one thing you may want to consider is looking into getting some of your sperm frozen and stored, don't think it costs much to store it per year, but should something unforseen happen and you have a change of mind at least you'll have some available. I later met another woman and had a reversal which was more painfull than the snip and not sucessful and expensive as had to go private. I believe lots of men don't think of this option, I wish that I had.

I did ask the doc about freezing, and he said that while it was possible, the two best options in the event of a change of mind are 1) reversal (90% success rate now, according to him) and 2) extracting straight from the knackers (where it is better stored than in a freezer). Can I ask how long ago this was?

Testimony has it's roots in testes. Romans used to have to swear on their bollocks. Hence the word

Re anaesthesia options:-
Like Winston said "Never stand up if you can sit down and don't sit down if you have the option of lying down" ;-)

Saw the local GP first. He asks all the what if's .... Get divorced, all present children die and you want to make some more etc etc. Told to make second GP visit after a few weeks to think about it. Then referred to Uni Hospital North Staffs who subsequently cancelled after 6 weeks due to funding. Back to GP who then referred to Brinsley Ave Trentham. First visit there had to be with the missus. A date set a few weeks on. Local anesthetic. Doc snipped pulled and tied knots. More blood than I expected. They pack your pants with padding for the blood. Don't wear boxers or the padding will be in your socks by the time you leave the surgery ; -) Stiches fell out after a couple of days. Two sperm samples sent to a lab about 2 weeks apart and you then get the all clear. Definately have some sperm frozen. You never know. Was told under no uncertain terms that the NHS do not provide reversals. Private only. Was told the reversal success rate was quite low. This was last year. All clear came through in October.
All in all a bit of a ball ache :-)
Sent from my GT-I9192 using proboards

Who here's had the snip? Any advice/tips/guidance for a gent giving it consideration? It's a piece of cake to be honest, no more unpleasant than having a filling at the dentists. A couple of tiny jabs in your scrotum and 20 mins later you're all done, just wear tight undercrackers for a few days whilst the bruising settles down. Dr Jones in Brinsley Avenue, Trentham did mine - he used to do 3 every week but has now retired - my GP referred me to him as he had done his. Once you're confirmed a 'Jaffa' just make sure you shag on your missus side of the bed - you don't want to roll over on a cold wet patch in the night

I had it done at Blythe bridge on a Saturday morning a month ago. first injection felt like a little pinch , no mither , especially as he said that was the painful bit and it was nothing.. he then pulled the vas on the right side of my sack and that's when I/he/his wife realised he didn't use enough of the anaesthetic (yes his wife helps out with the vasectomy but she has nice warm hands) , gave me a bit of a shock (it's a bit like when your kids are climbing on you and have no sense of where they're putting their elbows and knees and suddenly you get a nudge in the knackers) . a tad more anaesthetic and I happily watched the procedure. He then did the vas on the left side of my sack, this time plenty of anaesthetic and I didn't feel anything and watched him cut, snip, stitch away. Walked out a bit funny and went bed for the afternoon to watch Stoke on a stream v Watford. I then went to work Monday morning delivering sofas for dfs (11 suites) . Big mistake !!!! If u have A job where you are mainly standing, driving or sitting you'll be fine. if you have to climb in and out of a truck all day , carry objects upstairs or fairly heavy lifting, allow yourself a week off. I strained my stitches and ended up with an infection due to the wounds not healing, which got sorted after a stronger dose of anti biotics compared to the ones I was given on the day of the op. I walked funny for 3 weeks mainly my own doing because I couldn't get any paid time off work. Having said all that, I would do it again as long as I had a few days to recover. Jokingly mention on the day of the op "make sure you use plenty of anaesthetic doc" and you won't feel a thing during the 20minute operation. if you have anymore questions just quote me and I'll happily answer

Go local!
As mentioned above, the worst bit is the anaesthetic injections and that ain't bad. After that just lie back and think of England. A few days of discomfort, then get back on the wagon. A breeze really,
Good advice about being 100% sure you want it done. You should consider it as a non-reversible procedure. I was in my early 40s, had two kids and was certain I didn't want a third.

Thanks all. In two minds about the anaesthetic. I'd rather just do local but where I am it's normal to do it under general, and I'm a bit wary of doing anything they may not be used to...

I had it done after my 3rd. No sweat. It was done and dusted in no time.
Beware though - I have regretted it since.
