Bought the step-daughter a ticket for Leeds.
"You can have a secure Locker for your valuables as well but you're not having a pass for the luxury toilets.If you want the full-on festival experience you can slum it like I used to!.....Who the fuck uses vanity mirrors at a festival ffs?!"

Me too . What about a field surrounded by homosexual Muslims? Both experiences would be pretty horrific but getting bummed by a Muslim just beats spending time with pissed up Jocks in my opinion.

A colleague of mine had a proper neurosis on this when his son was about 12. He had nightmares that his son was gay & came home with his boyfriend, who in his words was a P****! He turned out straight

Have steered clear of UK festivals for a few years now. European festivals generally have better weather, are often cheaper, have more access to hotels (camping in your late 30's is a no-no for me) and have better crowds. Plus it's the buzz of going away that makes it as well.
Have attended Pukkelpop in Belgium for 5 out of the last 7 years and went to Summercase in Barcelona before that. Heading back to Barcelona in June for Primavera Sound which has one of the best line ups of the summer. Will probably go to Pukkelpop again and hopefully get another festival in somewhere else.
When my kids are older I'll be pretty much forcing them to go to festivals abroad, it's a miles better experience.
That said, there are some good UK festivals knocking about, Lunar Festival in June has a great line up and is a great little festival. Tramlines in Sheffield has a very decent line up for not much money as well.

Lonelady and Everything Everything are must see's and i have to say, the look of the stage right in front of the lit up main dish looks far more impressive than the idea of Justin Bieber in a shitty field at weston park: I'm booked in for the Friday night. Havn't seen the details of the breakdown of the line up yet. Fingers crossed it's Mercury Rev, a band I've always wanted to see. And I'll see Caribou and Dj Shadow. The folk I'm going with are big fans of North Sea Broadcasting {or whatever they're called}, I was just tagging along for the Dish experience as much as owt. Then finding MR and DJ Shadow are involved, got me excited, I'm sure it'll be great whatever. Under the stars. That'll do me.

That would have been a very cheap weekend for you then without the chalet accom. There's always drop outs on the day, get a wristband only for about £50. Next festival for me will maybe be "Supernormal" in August, then for deffo "The Liverpool International Festival of Psychodelia" in September. Discovered some great stuff at that one, White Hills being my off the top fave.

The 'Spernormal' fest features Stoke's very own Sophie Cooper with her sonic explorations. Be interesting to see what she does live. {I youtubed her collaboration with Delphine Dora, the release is very atmospheric/ethereal. Good luck with that. .} As for the Psychedelic fest. Acid Mothers Temple. Mint. Might see if I can coax someone along to a bit of that. Went to a few Kif Club psychedelic nights at the Zanzibar in Liverpool, hosted by ex Stairs members. Zukanican, The Living Brain! etc. {I think this Festival may have blossomed from those millenium beginnings.}

Just booked up for www.onblackheath.com/line-up/In that London with the missus and our 9 year old. Went last year for the Manics and Elbow but this year's line up is a lot more killer with less filler.
