...not helping the team out defensively but the rest of the team also have to help the front 3 when we're attacking.
We need to attack like a team & we need to defend like a team. This is what we did last season but this season Hughes hasn't adopted a fixed reliable attacking strategy, Our tactic this season has been - Give the ball to Shaq, Arnie, Bojan & hope they create something. This is added pressure on the front 3 to do all the attacking & also help out defensively is not helping anyone. It's ridiculous to expect 3-4 players to break down a 6-7 man defence. We're not Barcelona, we're Stoke. The others have to help out as well, just like Shaq & Bojan also have to track back.
If you don't have any movement from your midfield players, then naturally what you'll get is the tedious sideways passing we're witnessing right now. Our midfield players have to make more runs into the opposition box & help the front 3. Just look at how Spurs played yesterday. Everytime they got the ball, Ali, Kane, Lamela, Erikson, Rose, Walker all pushed forward but the player who really ran the show was Dembele. He made us look like school boys.
It all comes down to the fitness levels of our players. It's shocking & nowhere near premier league standard (or even Championship standard). Last season under Hughes, we had one of the fittest squads in the league & we had the option of playing the same 11 over & over again. Just look at Leicester, they're in the top of the league not because they've got the most technically gifted players, but because they work harder than all the other teams. We're the exact opposite of them.
We need to get a good pre-season into some of our players, bring in some young & fast full backs, a centre back who can actually run & a hungry goalscorer & we'll have a fabulous season.

Without sounding like a broken record, Given, Cameron, Shawcross, Muniesa, Whelan, Arnautovic and Shaqiri have all suffered from injuries of late, some have had stop start seasons others are just struggling along at less than 100% arguably. Then add Imbula to that who is still getting to grips with the pace of the Premier League and Bojan who was taken out of the firing line recently as he was struggling from the long term effects of his injury and it pretty much leaves Afellay and Wollscheid who have had a clear run of games.
This time last year we had players hitting their peak going into the last 5/6 games, this year we appear to be limping towards May......

Having said that so did eight others! I exclude affellay and given

We don't really look like a team just now , more a group of individuals . Spurs have all the team qualities that we lack right now and Hughes needs to get a grip of them talent is not enough without application and teamwork

Yes. A collection of individuals who haven't got a clue what they're doing!

Having said that so did eight others! I exclude affellay and given Sorry Steve, I thought Affelay was absolutely woeful - he is painfully slow in releasing the ball, and usually it is sideways and backwards. He allowed Alderweireld to carry the ball the best part of 45 yards in the first half and just could not keep up with him, although in his defense he had tried to close down Loris first; for the final goal Danny Rose played a 1-2 around IA 20 yards before the half way line and continued his run while Affelay stopped at the half way line. Not once did he get into the opposition box , and with the exception of the Swansea game, he has not got into the box all season at home. For me a lot of our issues (especially when you witness a team with the fluidity of Spurs, is the relative immobility of our two central midfielders, Whelan and Affelay. There is never a crisp first time lay off forwards, it's nearly always sidewards or backwards and by the time it's released any body further forward has been picked up by two defenders. Why do IA & GW think that passing back to Wollscheid or Shawcoss will lead to a threatening pass forward - isn't that the job of the midfield? Sorry to seem to be sounding out IA, and I admit that I am in the minority, but he is a tidy player, but not especially creative or even mildly threatening in an attacking sense.

MOM for us by sponsors too, I'm sorry too but he IMO was best of a bad lot last night! Sideways backwards or otherwise he was only one trying despite his woeful attempts on goal still MOM for us!
