If he goes then we need someone experienced enough to lead the back line in case shawcross is out.
Bartra sounds good but is he going to lead a backline with no experience in English football?
Williams or dann would be my first choice.

Williams or dann would be my first choice. Bartra is going Liverpool or united. Williams lives local in the summer (Tamworth) and runs soccer schools around the area, I actually think he would be open to move, and would be a great signing. Would work perfect with shawcross & can lead when shawcross is absent.

Despite what giro Jim says, wolly has been our best and most consistent defender this season, why would we get rid? I don't believe they will. Indeed. One good game, one average game, one stinker. Repeat to fade. Consistency personified. Interesting isn't it - that in the Oatcake player rankings for performances this season he is second only to Butland. Above favourites like Shawcross and Arnautovic A couple more decent performances and he could well be their player of the season.

At the right price, I would be more than happy to have him.

If any defender gets it with two clean sheets in the past 18 games (and no sign of the next one), then some supporters are more mental than I give them credit for!

How are you explaining away a 3.25M profit on a player you have lambasted since day one, and moaned about as being useless? Premier League premium. If we're chucking in league premiums then you're selling us short. Quite a bit more to go on top for a club like Monchengladbach in the Champions League.

I wouldn't give it to Jack either on the basis of the overall record (most goals conceded in the top half) but the fact that he has by common consent saved us from a few absolute bitch wuppings tells you all you need to know about where our defence has generally been. There's been decent performances from them all at certain times but overall and more often than not individually they have been pretty dog. None of them anywhere near player of the season.

Hasn't he made the most saves in the league? Which for me is pretty indicative of a pants defence.

Probably fair bit understandable when Sidwell or van Ginkel could add nothing to the party. It's the same virtual one man shield it's been for 7 years. Whatever the reasons the defending though has been shocking since the turn of the year.

Yeah the way he tries to fight with his team mates and the ref when he's fucked up, paint him as exactly that Glenn Whelan got the armband in Ryans absence, he has been moaning at others for his own shortcomings for years?

He may be no Pique, but Wollscheid has been more than steady this season through a period of inconsistency throughout the team. I think people are being a bit harsh on him and I suspect a couple in particular are merely trying trying to justify a stance taken in haste many moons ago.

I'd be sad to see him go if he did indeed leave. He's done a brilliant job for us this season in difficult circumstances, infact he'd be player of the season for me 'cos I'd be amazed if he's had the same bloke infront, behind & either side of him for 2 games in-a-row at any point this season. If we could actually field the same backline for a fair chunk of next season we'll progress even more.

I'm always slightly surprised that he's 27. I keep thinking he's 23/24ish and thinking that his occasional mistakes and total mental collapses are down to him being young.
Whatever happens this summer, we need one good, hard as nails centre back, possibly even two.

His age was one of the theory's on here for signing him and selling Huth at the start of the season, agree we need to find a player with the attributes you mention above pity we sold one that fitted the bill still we have a ball playing CB in Wolfy who fits our system, thank god we have one of the best goalkeepers in this league or we could possibly have been dragged into a relegation battle.
