LEE TOUCHED THE LIVES OF SO MANY' CIARA HILL 09:40 - 07 May 2008 A 23-year-old Port Vale fan who died in a car accident has been remembered for his lust for life and love of parties. The funeral of Lee Whittingham, pictured below, of Enstone Court, Clayton, was held at St Margaret's Church, in Wolstanton, yesterday. The church was crowded with hundreds of mourners ready to say their final goodbyes. As Tina Turner's Simply the Best played at the end of the service, friends and family gathered were told to remember the young party-loving man by his smiles, his dancing and his fondness for a bottle of Budweiser. The Reverend Andrew Knight said: "Lee was a remarkable young man who touched the lives of so many. His headteacher at school says of him: He was more happy to be socialising rather than having his head in his books. "His mum has told me he was a ladies man and rightly so. Whenever there was a party Lee was the first on the dance floor strutting his stuff. "His colleagues at Comet were very fond of him and he was great brother to Sophie and step-brother to Rebecca and Simon. He had a very close relationship with his nan and granddad Mary and Harold. "Lee was a wonderful young man and this will live on because he was an organ donor and some of his organs have gone on to help others live life. Family and friends have 23 wonderful years worth of happy, good memories." Lee was travelling from Great Bridgeford towards Woodseaves on the B5045 Newport Road in Seighford, near Stafford, when his car left the road. The incident happened in the early hours of April 19, and Lee died as a result of his injuries on April 27. Lee played football for Westbury Rangers and studied law, business studies and history while at Newcastle College. While he was studying he took a part time job in Comet in Trent Vale and after finishing his courses he stayed with the company and quickly progressed to the post of sales manager at the Stafford store. Paying tribute to her brother on The Sentinel's website, Sophie said: "I still can't accept that you're gone and I will never get to see you again. You were too young to leave us and I shall never understand why we had to let you go. "I miss you so much. You will always be in my heart." In a tribute read out during the funeral, Sophie recalled summer camping adventures during the school holidays where the siblings would set up a tent in the back garden and hoard chocolates and sweets which were mostly eaten by Lee. Mourners went to Bradwell Crematorium for the final section of the funeral yesterday and toasted Lee at the Victoria pub in May Bank. The Reverend Andrew Knight read a poem called 'He is Gone' to the congregation.

Great post , Football's only a game and it's a terrible thing to see a life cut short in such a way. At least the lad supported a local footie team and didn't take the usual glory hunting way.god bless to his family at this sad time.

In a time when rivalries between our teams have never been greater, it's a pleasure to read that TRUE football supporters can set these aside and see what is truly important.
Whilst I didn't know Lee personally, his mother is a dear friend and colleague of mine. This past few weeks, as I'm sure you will understand, has been a deeply distressing time for all of Lee's family and friends. His mother, and family, will draw so much comfort, knowing that there are people, even those that never knew him, that are willing to write such good things about him.
I will be sure, next time I see her, to make her aware of all messages posted.
As a supporter of the team in Black and White, may I thank you all at this time!

Now I don't want to piss on anyone's fire here. But didn't he crash his Subara Impreza into a tree on a country road in the early hours when there was no-one else about? Plus everyone at his funeral said he loved a Budweizer? Now,am I missing something here? Would anyone on here actually be saying RIP if he hadn't been a football fan? God I hate anyone to lose their life early, but at least look at the facts before you start to commiserate.

Whilst I don't condone the "Princess Di syndrome" of mourning somebody that very few of us knew, I'm afraid that I certainly can't agree with ChampionsElect casting aspersions on whether this young man had or had not been drinking prior to his accident.
The fact of the matter is that this young man has tragically lost his life and I'm sure that his grieving relatives do not need a stranger trying to sully his name in such a manner.

Nice to see you're all smiting me,or is that just you Knowingeye? A mate of mine was killed last year on the a53 out near Loggerheads. He was a Vale fan.Grew up in Bucknall, though the Sentivale preferred to say he was from Telford. If you want to mourn someone then do it in the right place, not on a message board.

W'boro I didn't say he liked a Budweiser-everyone else did-including his family and friends!I was simply quoting what was already stated. If you don't like the truth then don't reply.

Nobody is disputing the fact of what you did or didn't say, but as far as I can see you were the only one that attempted to show a link between his "Love of a bottle of Budweiser" and the circumstances surrounding his death.
In my opinion it was a bit crass.
If you've got nowt good to say then it's probably a good idea to say nothing at all.

If you didn't want to pay any respects using a message board then don't. In the same vein why not think about the irrelavant crap you have posted then delete it and leave this thread alone.

Well the next time that someone you love is killed by some idiot in an overpowered car, that everyone says is a fun loving guy, then perhaps you can comment. In the last 5 years I have lost 2 close friends-killed by in the coroners court (fun loving guys!Or words to that effect by the family)-knocked over by young lads in too powerful cars. I just don't ask people to mourn them on a football message board.

So why not see a bit of sense and respect and in an area as delicate as this keep your thoughts/accusations to yourself. Let it be.
