This Saturday’s match against Swansea marks my 49th birthday. This year I have managed to secure a ticket as part of my present which is great – the chances of me getting to the Brit are few and far between since having a family so opportunities like this are always seized upon. Being ever hopeful of my children following in my footsteps and having noticed that a couple of them had been keeping an eye on the results, I decided to ask my girls if they’d like to join me. To my complete surprise, everyone of them said yes. So that’s 6 debutants in one go, their first ever match – it makes me a very proud dad. They are all looking forward to the experience and have been counting down the days to go. I never thought I’d see this day – the day when I’d be watching my football club with all my girls with me and after all those dark times back in the eighties and nineties suffering embarrassment after embarrassment it’ll coincide with one of Stoke City’s most successful periods. We should all be celebrating this wonderful purple patch and it’s moments like this when the reality of our recent massive upturn in fortunes is appreciated. After all, this moment in my life could have been when we were due to play Bury in League One. How lucky we are! I remember my first match - 40 years ago against Manchester City in the FA Cup 4th Round. It left a positive indelible mark with me – I hope the same can be said for my girls after this Saturday’s match – win, lose or draw. As a footnote: we will be in the South Stand – it was the only area that had 7 seats together. What’s the atmosphere like and should I be concerned that we will be next to the Swansea fans? Will the club make available any ticket returns – I know the chances of them being together is unlikely in this situation but would it be possible to get any kind of transfer? Any advice would be appreciated.

6 daughters or 5 plus the wife? I hope you aren't on the same row as me as they get bored, and want the toilet etc. Seriously, I hope they have a great time, I remember taking my 2 lads and a couple of their friends for their first game when we were in league 1, there was plenty of room back then though. That Man City match, was that the night match that we won 1-0 ?

You'll be fine in S stand and they generate quite a bit of the atmosphere. You'll have at least 5 rows of seats with stewards sitting separating you from the 'swans'. Take a bag with grub in, drinks advisable in cardboard containers (not bottles)or those fruit silver pouches as everything in catering is so pricey!!Also you are searched gently on entry but not under 16's. Have a great day, take plenty of camera phone shots and enjoy!!

Hey dwr! That's brilliant!!! 6 daughters???? Bloody hell mucker, no wonder you haven't been to the games much, you haven't had time!!!! You will be fine where you are. The atomosphere isn't as good as it used to be but if Swansea get naughty or the ref is anti-Stoke it cranks up a bit. Anyway mate, hope you and the tribe have a great day!

Must have been something different as it's stuck with me all these years! Have a great day

Football is a serious business, but trying to produce your own team is taking things a bit far! Hope you all bring some luck with you.

I feel kinda robbed that I don't remember my first game. I was going from a very early age and it's before my earliest memories if you get me? I Remember little things like sitting on those metal beams leaning back on my dad, getting a hi-5 off Paul Peschisolido (probs spelt wrong) after he ran down the line after scoring and my Grandad getting a parking ticket while I waited outside the players entrance after the games getting autographs. No idea who we used to play during those times but happy memories none the less.
Have a great mate, hope the kids love it. You will be fine in the South Stand, best place to be in my opinion.

"should I be concerned that we will be next to the Swansea fans" Yet again we have fans questioning if the ground is safe. Its a football ground not a bloody war zone of course its safe. There hasnt beeen any trouble as such for years.

It sure does mate and 6 of them from the age of 13 to 17 one by one telling you to do one(or stronger words lol) all the best The age range is 18 down to 7 - we have a set of twins slap bang in the middle. To be fair, they're well pretty behaved and have an absolutely wicked sense of humour.

Thanks for all the advice on the South Stand question - I've not even considered an alternative since as it sounds like there's plenty of atmosphere in this part of the ground. All I've got to do now is sort the food and drink out and make sure we leave in good time. As the topic says, I can't wait for Saturday!
