I'd have him back.
As backup for Jack!

He didn't seem to play very well when he got his chance to me. His last season with us wasn't spectacular either. I think it was a good bit of business on our part.

He went there knowing he was number 2. He played 20 games. It's gone better than he could have expected. I think he might be refering to Chelsea's collapse more than his personal situation. Still- take note Arnie... if everyone went about their life thinking they won't aim high because they might fail, we would be living in a very sad and boring world. if he has ambitions that exceed those of the capability of stoke City then he will leave if the offer comes. you can't and shouldn't blame him if he does.

I don't begrudge him going but I don't believe he left for ambitious reasons either.
He would have had other suitors and it was pretty obvious Courtois wasn't going to be displaced (except through injury).
He would have been acutely aware of Butland closing in on him as our first choice. It's easier to play second fiddle to an established Courtois than be seen to lose your place in the team by some 20 year old.
More money, more recognition, London bound, better for his wife and all that Equestrian bollocks she's into, etc.
Unless Courtois leaves he'll never be the 1st choice keeper and I don't really think he minds. Easy life.

I know all players will have belief in themselves but did he really think he was going to keep Courtois out of the team ? Foolish move. This! Chelsea had just sold Cech (one of the best goalkeepers of the last decade) so that Courtois could get game time. He was seriously deluded if he thought he would win a place in the starting eleven! As fate has it, it probably allowed us to keep Butland who, in my opinion, has performed way above Begovic's displays last season.

Asmir, what really attracted you to the move to become second choice keeper at Chelsea for £100k per week then?

Exactly. Is it a fail - he's play 20 times for Chelsea this season and earned a shit load of money? Thing is, he started off at Chelsea and came to Stoke for first team action. He then moved back to Chelsea (who already have a top keeper) for what? The money! Win win for Asmir ????

Can't blame him for going. All his life he will have been the best wherever he plays and naturally wants to see how high he can go.
Frankly I'd be worried if a player with no local connection to the club came out and, said, that this was the absolute pinnacle of their ambition

Begovic was a great keeper for us. He still is a great keeper. He deserves better than sitting on Chelsea's bench.
Having said that, Butland is better. He's a special talent. Possibly the most valuable asset and talented player we've had since I started following the club.

Asmir might be edging his bets in the hope that Butland is sold on at some stage so that he can move back ....perhaps someone should tell him about Jacks new contract though ...

I still think Asmir is just as good as Butland.

For now, maybe.

Asmir, what really attracted you to the move to become second choice keeper at Chelsea for £100k per week then? A bit of glory as well - meaning winning the League or a cup. That's the only bit that hasn't worked out - otherwise he has had the season at Chelsea he signed up for.

I heard that the players with Bosnian decent had always planned to play for Bosnia? I also read the Zlatan also had the option of playing for Bosnia but chose Sweden.

Asmir was great for us and was in the Hughes team which took us up a level. At his peak you always backed him to stop a one v one. He has my good wishes, except when he plays against us of course, and if circumstances conspired to bring him back here some day, no problem. Same goes for Nzonz. We're not talking traitors here, just players who fancied a move after years of doing a great job for us.

I think he thought, better sitting on the bench at Chelsea on more money than sitting on the bench at Stoke........the writing was on the wall at the end of last season, and he knew it.........
