Surely it's time to give Hughes and his staff an improved contract to try and keep them at the club for the long term?
Hughes is amongst the names being linked to the Everton job if/when Martinez moves on and he has been key in helping to get some of the more high profile players to the club.
In my opinion Hughes leaving would be a massive set back and hopefully the Coates family see this too.

You would be surprised at the number of clubs Hughes would turn down to still manage us.

He knows he has complete support of both chairman & the fans. Why would he leave? He's at the cusp of achieving something truly special here at Stoke.

I think he would only leave for the 'normal' top 4 teams. Anyone else would be pointless really.

He says things at his press conferences like " Ask me that in a few years time here" etc. He clearly has long-term plans here, and they are not the words of a man desperate for a new job. He knows himself he is doing well here, and his partner Bowen, and I think they want to see how far he can really take it. He's an ambitious guy and we need that -- so of course others will see his ambition as well and want a piece of it. He'll be linked to bigger things his entire time here--- Well at least I would like to think so anyway.

Apart from Man United it is difficult to imagine a scenario which would be as rewarding or as secure as Stoke . Geographically it is also ideal for him . I can see at last ast another 5 years before Tone returns .....
Ooooeeerrr.

Biggest problem for Hughes is keeping hold of Bowen as he was linked to a club job a month or so ago and eventually Bowen will surely want to go and be his own man

Some people are best suited to a coaching role or an assistant manager role and others are better suited to management. You'd think that if Bowen and/or Niedzwiecki fancied a step up from their current jobs they would have put themselves up for such jobs after they and Hughes left QPR. As it happens both of them stayed with the team ethos and followed Hughes to Stoke, and they look entirely happy with their current situation - as, of course, does Mark Hughes. They are very much a package and you can bet that, just as Hughes got an improved contract last year, so did his right and left hand men. A few times at away games (last time for me was the Everton game) I've seen Eddie Niedzwiecki chatting with fans and he looks about as relaxed and content with life as it is possible to be in the world of football - and much the same can be said of Mark Bowen I suspect.

Tie him to a log term deal? Hughes will be singing all the way to the bank, "I'm a lumberjack and I'm alright?!"

I'm a big fan of the manager but when will Stokies get the message that the manager is not bigger than the club and if he moves on it will not be doomsday. Surely all the dithering that nobody could do the job better than Pulis has taught people that lesson.

Hughes (and the players) surely realise that they are employed by, arguably, the most stable club in the Premier League. I know money talks, but moving on may involve a big pay rise, but also much more instability. Is Begovic happy at Chelsea? Would Arnautovic be happy if he left but had little first team football?

Probably would only leave Stoke for Manure and could understand that. For now, his current deal is enough and if we continue to progress then revise it in 2017/18.
