I know with Imbula's signing that Charlie will be written off by many, but we have looked much better playing 4-3-3 at times, and thats a formation that Adam excels in. For home games against teams that shut up shop I would like to see this front 6 given a try
Adam Imbula Affelay
Shag Diouf Arnie
So dropping Whelan ask Imbula to play slightly deeper. Either Bojan as a False 9 or Diouf or top.

Why change a winning side, we've got 10 points from 4 games and you want to put Adam straight back in the side after weeks out? It's not as if he was playing particularly well before he got injured is it? A place on the bench with a 15 minute run out is about as much he can hope for and is about as much as he deserves. Gouranga.

The defensive side of it doesn't suit Imbula at all. One of the biggest reasons he didn't excel at FC Porto.

Gouranga. On the other hand it would be really cool to drop Whelan when all his family were over from Ireland to witness his 300th appearance for the Mighty Potters! As Albert says, I doubt if Adam has even 45 minutes in him at the moment- yes, I know he had a run out for the U21s this week. Also, as said above, I don't see Imbula as a Whelan replacement - I think that is where things went wrong at Porto. I expect Affelay would end up playing deeper and I'm not sure it would suit him either. Let's be honest a long term replacement for Whelan as the holding midfielder should be top of our shopping list at the moment - but he isn't quite ready for the knacker's yard yet.

Imbula's strength has been driving forward. That's the whole point of him.

Have we actually missed Adam? I don't think so.

I can't comprehend why anyone would want to consider moving Imbula, one of our most effective players, into a role to which he is much less suited in order to accommodate a barely fit player whose contribution can be so variable
