Not anything major by the sound of it, some sort of magnesium deficiency drug
Still, she is fit as fit, I would let her off :-)

She has more advisors than most people have extended family
No sympathy

How could you look at that and not sympathise
Has been taking it for 10 years apparently, it popped up on this years WADA list under a different brand name on 1st Jan 2016 - so sloppy and a mistake rather than cheating I would say
Still, SSN going into full on 'slow news day now picked up' mode with dedicated 24/7 coverage of it!
I always felt sorry for that British skier (Alan Baxter?) - was stripped of a bronze at the winter olympics because he bought a Vicks Sinex in the USA, unaware their version was different to ours and contained a stimulant
Bizarrely Salbutamol (blue inhaler) is also on the list too

I don't understand all this drug cheat stuff. I thought most drugs were here to improve the body. What's wrong with that ? Isn't that what we all strive for and if it does make you better at a certain craft, why should that be a bad thing.

However given the time frame I would accept a reduced punishment. I'm surprised that it was not on the hit list before then though

Yeah its weird
You would think that somebodies job was to log everything she takes from fruit tobparacetamol and compare it to the latest WADA list, with all the 'also branded as XXXX'
One job..you only had one job...

How long does this drug stay in your system? If you've taken it for ten years & it's been perfectly fine then I'm guessing you'd not even begin to worry as it might suddenly pop-up on the banned list all those years later. It's also appeared on this new banned list just days before a tournament she's played in... Was she taking it at the tournament? Was she taking it when it was still perfectly legal but it stayed in her system when banned? (Genuine questions, I haven't seen any interviews)
It does all seem much more 'mistake' than 'You dirty fucking drug cheat, burn her at the stake!'.

Shes a good looking gal whose got caught up in an innocent error. It reminds me of when somebody spiked my pint of stout and the next day i went up the peaks like a whippet. There was remnants of a blue drug in my pint.

I'm surprised that it was not on the hit list before then though If you are cheating you have whole teams of doctors and chemists dedicated to ensuring you pass every test (like certain well known athletes and cyclists). If you are not cheating then why bother to pay them? Some punishment is inevitable but it should be minimal because it is a treatment for medical problems rather than performance enhancing however she is Russian (US resident since she was 7 but who cares) so BLAME PUTIN!!!!

I read this as she's been using a performance enhancing drug for ten years, that improves circulation and reduces recovery time. Like Lance Armstrong, she's got a (very long) doctors note to say that she needs this drug for a pre existing medical condition. The Russians know every trick in the drug taking book, and I suspect that she's used the drug, legally, to help gain an advantage. I also suspect that she is far from alone in running the drug rules to the legal limit. She got caught, because someone got sloppy, probably because she is coming to the end of her pro career, and someone did not read the memo. I'm pretty ambivalent about it.

Doctor on this morning " you wouldn't take this for diabetes, and if she a heart condition she wouldn't be playing at this level" followed by " it doesn't add up"

Doctor on this morning " you wouldn't take this for diabetes, and if she a heart condition she wouldn't be playing at this level" followed by " it doesn't add up" That's not the right attitude. She's very pretty, looks sad, and needs a hug. I'm sure people would feel exactly the same, if this had happened to the Williams sisters.
