Latest one this Great British Benefits Handouts
What is it with Channel 5? They're obsessed with benefits and demonising those claiming them
is it secretly funded by Whitehall with the intention of further stigmatising those at the bottom rung?!
And why are people so desperate to watch it anyhow??
Seems like they pick the worst examples of the feckless and use it then to turn ordinary people against one another including the genuineley sick & disabled and those laid off who are really looking for work
Something very unsettling about it all

Something very unsettling about it all Many are the worst examples of British society and for some people it does make for compulsive viewing . Personally , I find it uncomfortable viewing . I don't necessarily think there's any conspiracy behind such programs but simply good viewing figures . I don't think that your average person would draw too many conclusions about those on the dole , but then again there are always those exceptions to the rule . When you are at the bottom of the ladder then it makes life that more difficult especially if you don't have any recognised qualifications . The bottom line is that if you really want to get somewhere in life and buy a house etc , then you have to get off your idle arse and work for it . In my experience it's more about pride and determination . If you want it bad enough then you'll get there in the end .

Im expecting to see Adam Johnson starring shortly
Couldn't even imagine Poundland (no disrespect) employing him if found guilty so he'll need to stretch them savings a very loooong way!

Wish I could get on benefit Street, however I'm too poor.
After working for 30 years and getting only child benefit then finishing with ill health to be told I can't have ANY benefits I just hope I come back FAT, FOREIGN and PREGNANT with a touch of DRUGGIE and INSANITY thrown in for effect.
OK OK I know I got the insanity.
Bless my wife who keeps me or me and Mr Squirrel would be next door neighbours at Longton Park, one eating nuts and the other going nuts.

Poverty Porn is all part of the great Tory con trick regarding blame and turning poor on poor.
A lot of people have fallen for it.

Poverty porn - spot on! Divide and rule. Tory social engineering in the eighties split the working class into the "deserving" poor who could be bought off by selling them cheap council houses and shares in companies they already owned; and the "undeserving" poor who were left to rot on incapacity benefit and cheap drugs. Throw some immigrants into the mix to stir up resentment further and the rich are laughing all the way to the bank.

After spending over 12 years in the welfare to work sector I can see both sides of this issue, the benefits system especially JSA is in place primarily as a safety net to support people who are for whatever reason out of work, in that capacity it is in principal a very good way of assisting individuals, however there are people who abuse the system and use it as an ongoing income which needs addressing. ESA is a different kettle of fish which is in the process of undergoing drastic changes many of which are needed, only the people who through disability or health issues that prevent them from working in some capacity should remain on ESA for any reasonable length of time. We are told that we need migrant workers to take up the employment opportunities that our own workless benefit claimants will not carry out, WTF is that about if they are fit enough they should be encouraged to fill these vacant positions, if they refuse to do so with no valid excuse their benefits should be suspended with immediate effect, that way the need for migrant workers in the semi/unskilled labour markets would be negated. Another issue I have is that we have migrants in this country who are claiming benefits from a system they have not contributed in any way, for instance we have people claiming Job Seekers Allowance who can not speak a word of our native language, how the hell can this be right they are not fulfilling the JSA contract they have signed as they are unable to seek gainful employment due to the language barrier, their benefits should be withdrawn with immediate effect until they can converse in English in a manner that would enable them to fill in application forms required and sit through a formal job interview in the same manner everyone else has to.
