If Afellay continues his form and we assume Hughes will continue seeing the need for a Whelan, how does Bojan get back into the XI?
Are we expecting to see the little guy on the bench again today?
Unused sub in the last 2 league games - he can probably deal with that. But if that becomes 3, 4, 5?

With the difficulty we've had breaking shit teams down at home I'd play him today. Harsh on Affelay but I'd do ot.

Pick the best team to beat the opposition and/or form players and not names.
Harsh but Afellay is performing well.

Affelay drops out, easy.
Simple as that for me. There are three roles in our midfield, and he can't play defensive midfield as well as Whelan, box to box as well as Imbula or playmaker as well as Bojan. He can come on with 20 minutes left if we need somebody to pass sideways and backwards from inside the opposition half.

Harsh on Affelay but great for us, we can let Bojan have a go and if that doesn't work get Affelay on instead and change things a bit. Sign of a good squad. Again harsh but the advantage with Affelay is that he isn't a star on the rise given his age and is probably reasonably content to play when he's picked instead of being the Billy Big Bollocks. Great to have him especially as Bojan hasn't been at the top of his game recently.

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous. Afellay has been class lately. We can't drop him at the moment. Bojan is getting the rest he desperately needs anyway.

Suppose you've always got the old False Nine option to wheel out on occasion - but then you frustrate our gaggle of strikers.

I like him because he's gritty and can do a number of jobs in midfield; but as MD says, in specific roles, he's not as good as Whelan, Imbula or Bojan.
Bit of a Jack of All Trades in there. But good.

Bojan has too play today for me. Afellay plays too many sideways passes for me and today we need someone willing to run at there defence with the ball more. Afellay has been playing well recently just a change in play. Or put afellay on the left anyway. All Arnie does is come inside anyway so wouldn't make much difference

Bojan gets in today based on what he did pre-Rochdale, yet the guy who has been tearing it up this season gets dropped? I'd probably even stick Affelay in for Whelan to be honest, who has been complete pony recently.

Bojan should be playing up front today and for the foreseeable futre. Our best team is:
........Imbula....Whelan..... Arnie.......Affellay.........Shaq .................Bojan.................

The Guardian has him in a three with Imbula and Whelan with BMX playing a false No 9 attack. I'd love to see that. Guardian

A game like today we dont need to play Whelan. Imbula can easily take his position (with a better range of passing) and Affelay/Bojan can both play together with Joselu up top.
If there is ever a game that Whelans break-up-play shouldnt be needed it is this one.
We will have comfortably 65% possession so the challenge will be in breaking down Villa, who will sit deep and play on the break

Villa are a shambles, but they still have some good players. We are not playing a non-league outfit! I'd play Bojan though, in the BMX false nine formation. We need all our creativity as they will camp out on the edge of their box and try to frustrate us.

After breaking that horrible losing streak, why change a winning team?
Same front four for me, leave Arnie and Bojan champing at the bit to get on.
Happy days ????

SJW as lone striker is the key to the whole thing.
It doesn't matter as much, which 3 play just behind him out of Arnie, Bodger, Ibby or Shaq.

I don't think you can drop Affelay just to check and see if Bojan's gonna perform today. Start with the strongest then bring Bojan on first sub. He's gotta earn his place back. Fair's fair.

We don't, and who does, have a best XI.
Play the right team on the day.
When we are in Europe we will need more players of this standard

If there is any game to try Imbula and Afellay in the middle it's this one. Should control large portions of the game but will struggle to break them down, Bojan should be the first name on the sheet for me.

I'd keep the midfield the same. Then when we're 3-0 up bring on Bojan for Whelan.

IMO Afellay has been our best player in 2016. Bojan has been largely anonymous.
Much as I like Bojan, form has to be a factor and now way should afellay drop out.
