I've been offline for a few days - how are they looking? Will they make the villa game?

I would like to think Ryan will be rested unless 100% okay to go.
I'm sure MH has said Arnie has recovered from the illness that kept him out of Bournemouth

Sounds like Arnie's back in training and good to go. But the last Shawcross update at the end of last week seemed to think he had at least some kind of chance.
STOKE skipper Ryan Shawcross is hoping to resume full training in time to make the home game with Aston Villa in eight days.
Shawcross is currently working on his own during Stoke's six-day stay for warm-weather training in Dubai, but hopes to step up his routine before the Villa game to prove his recovery from a back muscle injury on January 23.
And Stoke's defensive injury crisis is so bad that Erik Pieters and Philipp Wollscheid - currently the club's only fit, experienced defenders - have been pulled out of any contact work as a precaution.
"Ryan hasn't joined in with the group yet," said assistant manager Mark Bowen. "He's just started line running and is working himself to a standstill.
"The ideal scenario is to get him home next week and ready to join in with the other lads, then he has the best part of a week to see if he can make the Villa game."

We really are struggling at the back. I guess if Ryan can't play, then we'll start with Bardo, Wooly and Erik. Are either of Geoff and Muni getting any closer to fitness?

Read that apart from Arnie non are strong contenders for the Villa game. Can't see us going three at the back in any circumstances surely he'll play Tex or move Pieters to CB and play a youngster LB. Was really hoping we'd be at full strength after this break, fingers crossed it doesn't bite us in the ass.

Do we really need any defenders against Aston Villa?

I wouldn't risk any player against a poor Championship side .
Right now Port Vale would pose a bigger threat than Villa.

I wouldn't risk any player against a poor Championship side . Right now Port Vale would pose a bigger threat than Villa. Villa recently held the league leaders(Prem not Championship) to a draw. No team in the country is good enough to take any other team so lightly. Sometimes some of our fans sound as arrogant and clueless as Arsenal supporters.

I find these next two games more worrying than playing top six sides. Easy on paper but we all know Stoke...

I'd rather play some youngsters than play first teamers hugely out of position.
