Never got why we didn't do this with him.
Maybe we offered it him, no idea. His lads were playing for their (Derby) academy and he still lives out that way.
But it was clear he'd make a good coach.

Superb, underrated footballer who played in every position on the pitch during a career played out almost in its entirety at the top level of British football.

I'm afraid that we really missed a trick on this one.
As for Rory as a footballer, such intelligence and tactical awareness on a football pitch is very rarely seen.

Nice sentiment but Stoke have no obligation to Rory in coaching circles. He needs to pursue his career elsewhere. Our coaches will be more advanced and right for the club. Who knows lets hope the lad can help us again in the future

Average in that he played at a level just under the top. Good players like that go away, start their coaching careers low profile and do good So many ex players trying to scratch a living from the game. Ther are top players taking their first job as manager failing and struggle getting back in. He's starting at the bottom albeit at a good level.

Good start for him they won 3-0.I suppose with Darren Bent and Nick Blackman up front you'd expect to win an under 21 game though.

Are you lot serious, he did an ok job for us and had a great weapon with his throws, but seriously he was very average as a player, well let me rephrase, would he get in today's team.......... Tin hat already on..... To repeal the rose tinted glasses brigade......

Tin hat already on..... To repeal the rose tinted glasses brigade...... Literally ? No, of course he wouldn't get into today's team as we have a shed load of expensive, high-wage players now so the era is quite different But he was a fantastic servant to the club at that time in our history, and a player like him should be in every squad and more likely on every bench, superb example to others. AND he kicked the ball very very very hard against poor little SWP, showing he was no softy, the red card was worth it for the tantrum Ian Wright threw on the radio

Bollocks, I fucking love Rory and he was fucking outstanding for us; a middling to slightly below average side. By my reckoning that slaps him bang in the middle of quality for the division we are are in. Also known as........ average. Frigging red and white glasses everywhere. I despair sometimes, I really do. I hate the term "deluded" as it's horrendously cliched, but put pinch my piles with a pair of tweezers and jam a cocktail stick down my urethra if we're insinuating Rory Delap was anything other than average. For cock's sake, the man is the embodiment of a fucking Premier League journeyman. Cock fucking me right up my bloody rusty piece.

From a Stoke City perspective there's absolutely nothing average about Rory Delap. He's one of the main reasons the club was dragged out of the shit heap into the top flight. And in terms of his footballing ability he was criminally underrated and his many qualities overlooked. I'm amazed that any Stoke fan can put Rory Delap and average in the same sentence. We endured virtually thirty years of average before the likes of Rory came along and gave us memories to last a lifetime.
