Should he start in the next game considering that Afellay played well against Bournemouth & doesn't deserve to be dropped at the moment? Or should he just stay on the bench for the time being. Probably a bit disappointed to be dropped right after he signed a new contract.

A stint out of the team will do him the world of good, it looked like that knee injury was catching up with him over the Christmas period.

He needed a good rest but he will be back better than ever after the break!

He desperately needed a break. He has been playing on adrenaline all season and I was worried we rushed him back tbh. Luckily, there hasn't been a recurrence of his injury but after playing so well at the start, his form dropped away. He needed a rest. Every time he's had a short rest, he's come back looking sharper and better. He needs it.
I wouldn't put him in against Villa, but I'd certainly start him against Newcastle. Squad rotation is important as we found out a few weeks ago.

Just my opinion, but I think he has a very good attitude about playing within the team rather than ahead of it. He'll be happy to see a win whether he was in or not, and hopefully this break has given him the opportunity to strengthen and get back in good physical form.

I agree, a fortnights rest will do a lot of good for a number of our players with knocks and strains. Also Hughes has always persisted with players who have stepped in when injuries have called for cover and have performed well, its only fair.Affelay should start next game in the same position and bojan will have to earn back his place through merit

Didn't manage to make it to Bournemouth in the end, did Affelay actually play no.10 or more as a third midfielder?

Against poorer teams at home, and we have a few of them coming up, I would be tempted to try Affelay and Imbula deeper and then Bojan in the hole. Try to be more positive and get more creativity in the team.
Glenn's an invaluable player, but I'd be interested to see if we could play more aggressively. Imbula could sit deeper, Affelay is good box to box and Bojan then has a free role to create chances against teams sitting back against us.
Just a thought.

The way we are losing defenders at the moment I can see Bojan at CB alongside Shaqiri, with Mame & Arnie as fu :Dll backs

He has only given us a few glimpses of his great spell last season since he came back , he still seems unsure about taking men on and going past them so they need to get him back to that, the contract gives us hope he can get there so hopefuly MH knows what to do to get the best from him again soon

Bojan is brilliant. He hasn't been too effective recently but that has to be partly due to the aftermath of his huge injury and lack of a full pre season.
Start him v Aston hopefully this little break will help him through to May.

This would have to be against really poor teams, like in pre season games or League 2 teams in the cup. A class team that sees a Stoke team with no dm in front of the defense will be sure to exploit the free space. It could end up with man slaughter in broad daylight. But the beauty of Afellay is that he can play any five midfeild positions, so he could stay in the team but in a different position to allow Bojan back where he's best...or we could return Bojan to his false nine with Shaq and Arnie false sevens and elevens.

Can't see him starting against Villa, hopefully he'll be fit and firing when he does get back into the team though.

if bojan is fully fit he must start I have to disagree . if he is on form and he is making it happen on the ball ..then yes he is good enough to play despite being frankly lightweight off the ball. You could argue if its not quite happening for SJW on the ball, that his persistent badgering and needling of defenders could have an impact and I suspect it does. But Bojan is not that sort of player ... if its not happening for him on the ball .. then its not happening ...and he shouldn't be playing.

See where you're coming from, but I don't think I'd like to see us try that with our current make-shift defence, even against the likes of Villa at home!

Im normally for players playing who are in form.
But with Bojan hes that bit special we need to have him on the pitch. Yes Affelay can play there and he links it very well but Bojan is a matchwinner all on his own,
He will have had a break, so he should be bursting with energy by the time we play Villa

When he is fully fit and raring to go he is central to everything we do going forward, he's had a few off days and is rightly being rested at the moment but he'll be back without a doubt. It's great we have so much competition for places, and even when he's not in the team he is an incredible option to bring to change the game.
