LMH can take them away now to Dubai and they can have a good break and get some of the injuries sorted out. We'd have been playing Spurs at WHL next weekend and probably losing and risking more injuries.

Nah. Not buying that. I wanted us to beat palace. Yes, in hindsight Spurs are superb at the moment but I still would rather be in it.

I don't see why he's got to cart them off to Dubai, a seven hour flight won't do Ryan's back any good.

Stupid post on two counts. 1. What sane SCFC supporter wants to be out of the FA Cup 2. We may not have been playing Spurs.

I think he has a point given our injuries though. If Shawcross and co were fully fit, would be a different story, but with our current shortages at the back, a cup run would result in 1) Defeat at Wembley in LC, exit in future round of FA Cup and 2) Struggle to stay in the top ten. Whereas without the cups to worry about we now have 1 ) No silverware BUT 2) Realistic chance of finishing top 8 and beating last season's points tally.

Sure the docs will have advised on the sensibleness of Ryan flying for 7 hours.
But first class will be considerably better than the cheap seats - basically a bed and the physio will be able to massage whenever he needs it too

I don't think he's saying we can NEVER win the cup, but without Shawcross I don't think we can. For us to win at Wembley we need our star players fit and firing. If we have an injury-free season like Leicester then we can get silverware, but without the likes of Ryan in the side I think we will always end up slightly short.

Again...stupid assumptions We could have been playing at home to Shrewsbury next week and rested a few top players. Ryan is fit for Villa and then the next round. We are not going to qualify for Europa in the League .... we may have had a chance with the FA Cup given the luck of the draw.

All fair points I think my perspective comes from the fact that last time we got to a final we had star players not fully fit (Huth, Etherington) and others out completely (Fuller) ... Psychologically, I think I would cope better with 1) Get knocked out earlier in the cup, and have injury problems than 2) Get all the way to the final and then just miss out because we have injuries. (1) Is slightly disappointing whereas (2) Is devastating

I personally was really peed off when I saw that Palace starting eleven ... especially the midfield. We, the punters don't know diddly squat of course about the situation at that particular time of course. I just think (hopefully wrongly) that the Cups are our only chance of real glory.

I understand the sentiment but as a Stoke fan I cannot ever, ever say I am glad we lost.
I wish we'd thrashed Palace, it's as simple as that.
Now, I will add, I do understand the sentiment. There is logic behind what the original poster said. It does make a modicum of sense if you apply some logic to it. However, balanced against that sentiment is the equally powerful sentiment that anyone who is glad Stoke lost can just f*ck off up the Vale.

100% agree, we could do without a game against anybody next weekend the squad needs to rest and recuperate for the run in. Top 8 is realistic but top 6 is possible.

I actually agree, I'd like to focus on the league right now I'm too bummed out from the Carling Cup to deal with being close to the FA and bottling it. Considering our injuries and illness to this is an absolute godsend of a break. I can sit back next weekend and put my feet up and enjoy the football knowing it has fuck all to do with Stoke.

See my edit, I don't fancy us to get anything against Spurs with the problems in the squad we have right now. Can't deal with two competitions and if we aren't going to go all the way then frankly the money and prestige from a higher prem place means more then coming even second in the FA cup.
