I'd love to see Ryan on the touch line alongside the gaffer marshalling and directing. Is that allowed?

I'd rather he be at home with his wife and kids, relaxing.

I don't think it's a good idea. It would be almost like Hughes admitting he isn't good enough to lead without Ryan and that would be a terrible message to send to the players. Shawcross is our best player but we shouldn't be solely reliant on the man and we've shown we don't have to be. (Liverpool away!)

Only one person allowed at a tme in the technical area so I don't think the idea is a goer. However, I wonder what Ryan's ambitions are after he retires. His value to the defence is quite clear both as a defender and as a tactician. I wonder if he has any plans to do his coaching badges? He always strikes me as quite diffident in interviews yet he clearly gets his opinions over to the team, to the opposition (including Mr Costa) and to referees - maybe he has it in him to be a coach one day?

I would much rather he was in the team.

I wondered about this too. Not a good idea he is in the technical as this would undermine Hughes and the coaching staff. I guess he is not given the chance to be in the dug out either but gets a view from the stands when he attends games.
Does he attend all games and travel with the team?
Does he have a role in the dressing room before, at half time and after the game?
As captain I would think that even when injured he can still have a part to play in motivating the team and if he is not around he will lose their respect.
He is mobile after all so I would think he is playing his full part.

Nothing wrong with him giving a rallying speech in the dressing room before kick off, like he would if he was playing. But he shouldn't do anything that Hughes should be doing.

Ferguson allowed players like O'Shea and Giggs to be seated in the area on days when they weren't playing, both of them hugely influential in the day.
But other than that I can't think of others who've been used this way.

Could we fit Teixeira with some kind of electrical device and give Ryan the controls? The more frequent the shocks, Jonathan, the more out of position you are.

I would rather see him in the stands sitting with the supporters but it isn't going to happen, is it?
