He only signed because you can't get Oatcakes anywhere else.

I have seen Sir Stan play for Stoke at 50 years of age - we beat Fulham 3 - 2. He was brilliant. Alan Hudson was equally good. Sublime skill, brilliant first touch, mesmerising to watch. Boyan at his best is the best I have seen in a Stoke City shirt. So pleased to hear that he has extended his contract. The key to our future success is getting the best out of Boyan. We now have great players in our team - he is the best. MH must build the team around him! OK we need a decent defence as well!

So refreshing to read humble and appreciative words from the little magician. Yes! Bojan is either a very gequine person or he has a very good P.R. agent. Probably the former. Now what About Arnie?

My father who isn't prone to exaggeration reckons he was head and shoulders above everyone else at his peak ( although back then you rarely got to see foreign players, just hear about them on the radio so that would be British players I guess) Boyan is the real deal and to tie him down with such a contract shows a forward thinking attitude that previously was seriously lacking at our club. Well done to all involved

This is good news, of course. Now the manager needs to find a way to get the best out of him. This means playing him in a position where he will threaten the goal, and not in the crowded area he has been in this season where he is far too easy to knock off the ball.

Brilliant news. We must remember it is only 12 months since his operation and he will still be recovering. When I had a far more minor knee op, I was back driving in a week but was told to expect it to take 18 months to fully recover. I reckon he will be even better next season

The comments on the BBC website that he gives, also gives a strong message to other potential signings - " He ( Hughes) followed closely the recovery process from my injury and there is no doubt I have signed an extension of my contract thanks to him"

Sometimes MHs tactics are questionable but as a person and man manager there's not many better.

We've won 50% of games when he's started (18), 0% of the 7 games he hasn't started.

So when the papers said we were trying to tie him down to a new deal they were correct...
... and Hughes said there was nothing in it... the little liar.

It's great to see how committed he is to the club If you think that he's committed to the club for any reason beyond money and the fact that no one else better wants him then you are probably very naïve. Great news the club have tied him to a new long term contract but lets not be silly about this. He's signed because of the money, security and probably clauses in the new contract that allow him to leave at the first whiff of interest from a "big" club.

You've already mentioned one extra reason beyond money and the fact that no one else better wants him - security. Boje has spoken numerous times about how unsettling it was to be out on loan all the time, not knowing which club he'd be at or even which country he'd be in a few months down the line, and how he now feels settled and wanted at Stoke. I'm not so naïve as to think he wouldn't look at other offers, but I don't think it's unrealistic to suggest that there is a certain level of "commitment" to the club that another player of his ilk might not ordinarily have.

How come it took MONTHS of negotiations then? Why did he not just agree immediately he was offered the contract? Afterall, that is what people seem to expect of Arnie? Why should it be any different to Bojan? Has Bojan been holding the club to ransom for MONTHS?

I don't disagree and I have nothing but love for Bojan and delight that he's committed himself to our club. My comments are aimed at those who are commending his commitment to the cause whilst ignoring the fact that discussions have been ongoing for MONTHS. Those same people then slam Arnie and question his commitment because he has been negotiating for a few weeks.

I pointed this out earlier Dave, although my take on it was aimed more towards thick Stokies warped perceptions of our players & their assumed motives. Walters haggles over a new contract - 'give him what he wants he has always given 110% - stoke legend' Bojan's agents negotiate for months to get him £70K a week for 4 years - 'brilliant, he is Stoke through & through' Arnie's agent has opened negotiations and the press have got wind - 'sign up or fuck off, no-one holds the club to ransom'

Hopefully it was the final stages of his contract and possible intrest from other clubs in January that affected his form and now it's sorted he can start being the player he was before, 70k a week I'd like to think so

Does anyone know if the assumed buyout clause has been increased or dispensed of?
The wee man has a rosy future here. His progress is apparent.

Like it or not that's about the going rate for a player of his quality and if we want to sign these kind of players we have to move with the times or we lose them.
