www.bbc.co.uk/stoke/realmedia/2005/12/boskamp_091205.ramI WANT A FIVE-YEAR DEAL, SAYS BOSKAMP Next Story | Previous Story | Back to list Be the first reader to comment on this story BY MARTIN SPINKS 12:00 - 10 December 2005 Stoke City boss Johan Boskamp celebrated last night's thrilling win over Leicester by dramatically disclosing: "I've asked for a five-year contract." Boskamp's long-term future remains clouded in uncertainty following the recent fall-out with his managerial sideicks - and he has already hinted that he offered to walk away from the Britannia at the height of the recent row. But now he has revealed a desire to remain long-term at Stoke after piloting his side into the top-six on the back of last night's 3-2 victory over Leicester. "I want to sign a five-year contract," he said. "I told the club that two months ago. I like it here, it's unbelievable. "In the five or six months I have been here we have come really far. Step by step we can go forwards, not just the first-team, but also the Academy." He said he remained committed to recruiting fresh faces in the January transfer window, while the likes of Toddi Gudjonsson and Anthony Pulis were free to leave in the opposite direction. Last night's triumph saw Stoke twice come from behind as a Paul Gallagher penalty left them 2-1 behind until late goals from Mama Sidibe and Sammy Bangoura repeated last season's 3-2 triumph over the Foxes. Bangoura's winner was his eighth goal in only his 10th appearance for the club - and ended a sequence of six defeats in eight home games - but a booking for over-celebrating his winner leaves him threatened with a suspension. "I think Christmas comes early in Stoke when we give them their goals," mused Boskamp, "but then we have some great moments to make it 2-2 and 3-2. "Sammy scored again, but also Mama this time. I'm surprised when people sometimes make him man-of-the-match for his work-rate because he has to score goals as a striker. But lucky for us he scored tonight."

FIVE years - didn't see that coming did we?
Wally
Hang on - Boskamp says he currently only has one year deal - now all of a sudden the Tony Scholes quote from last week takes on a whole new meaning

It's in the interview with Nigel Johnson. The link's at the top of the post.
It does SEEM like his contract has been reduced,in line with recent speculation?.
He should be contracted until Summer 2007, and saying he had a"one year contract " doesn't seem to fit in with that?.

So as it stands right now he is leaving at the end of the season.Whats the point in letting him bring more players in then?there is alot of mixed messages coming out of the club i think its time they told everyone whats happening.

Not sure if a five year deal is a good idea but it would be back to square one if Bossie left at the end of the season. Lets hope something gets sorted out soon.

I agree with time4apint, Boskamp wants a 5 year deal so he has financial security. Stoke don't want to sign him up on a 5 year deal because if ever the board want to get rid of him they don't want to be paying loads of conpensation.

It certainly isn't a rolling one year contract. Bozzie's words were that he has a contract only until June. His original contract was two years so it has been reduced since the row started. Whether this is because Bozzie wanted it reduced or the board wanted it reduced we don't know.
Would Bozzie ask for or suggest a reduction? If it was the board who suggested the reduction did they do it because they felt they had the right to sack him and reducing the contract was a last chance - or did they agree to it to stop him walking out?
Those are the reasons I could imagine could have led to this situation - anyone else got any other ideas?

After seeing the board not act on his ultimatum I think Boskamp requested his contract be reduced to one year,i dont think Boskamp is the sort of person who wants to be seen to walk out halfway through the season. And the board are hoping we make the play offs and he changes his mind and stays, but Jan and John will still be there so even if we make the play offs will he stay?

It's very strange.
He spends the last 2 minutes of the interview with Nigel Johnson speaking in great detail, and with real enthusiasm, about his long-term planning for the club .
And all this after the apparent revelation that,at either his or the board's choosing, his contract has been sliced in two after the row - which means there may not be a long-term future at the club for him at all.
It does fit in with kind of speculation that was in the Belgian press last weekend where the end of this season was marked up as a probable departure date for him, with him saying he'd be delighted to sign up for 5 years if he was backed, but if not,he'd consider a return to Belgium.

On performance to date, I would be happy if Boskamp got a 3-year deal, but I don't think any manager is worth a 5-year deal after just 6 months - unless their club is very rich.

I would love Boskamp to sign a new contract, perhaps not 5 years, thats a long time in football but a new 2/3 year contract would be great news for Stoke.
We are definitely moving in the right direction and i feel that with the right backing Boskamp is the man who can take us forward to that next level.

I have no idea how old they are but, Dave, are you saying that there are any blokes in all of England who, standing in a night club, would look at those two walking towards them and say "Excuse me, but I believe you are not 16, therefore I will have nothing whatsoever to do with you"?
