We could do with a cutting media man to ask Hughes a direct question about it. Nige? This ^ is my pet peeve. The journos at Hughes's press conferences are spineless sycophants. "How do you feel, Mark?", "You must be disappointed, Mark?", "You must be pleased, Mark?". Instead we should be hearing "What were you thinking leaving last year's top scorer on the bench?", "Why did you bring Bojan off?" Etc. They should earn their money and earn readers' respect by asking difficult questions instead of sucking up. IMO they are worse than journos that make stuff up - at least they stir the pot a bit.

I'm no football tactician (well I think I am, but I accept that Mark Hughes has the edge on me ), but it seems blindly obvious to me that we're in desperate need of Diouf's pace and aggression right now, he'd stretch the game and give our creative players more space in which to operate. Bojan needs that. There must be something more than footballing reasons behind his absence. We went to such lengths to secure Diouf's signing and although he has his faults, he must be delivering exactly what we'd hoped for from him. Pace, presence, 1 goal in 2.5. On song, he's our best option up front. Joselu dropping down the pecking order, just as he was coming good, is almost equally baffling. All quite strange.

I'd play Joselu or Diouf ahead of Crouch so not sure what's gone on there.

And if you are right, which I suspect you are and there is something more going on why even put him on the chuffing bench with no intention of playing him? Just can't work it out

If we lose on Saturday and Diouf doesn't play CF then major questions have to be asked!

I do accept that footballers always get better when they're not in the team, people calling for Tex to get a game against Lukaku is evidence of that , but I really don't get the Diouf situation at all. The problem is that he must be so short of game time and confidence, he may not have the impact we'd all expect and hope for.

Perhaps he's not showing anything in training?
Hughes isn't going to come out and tell us the real reason why he isn't including him because it'll harm the asset.

If we lose on Saturday and Diouf doesn't play CF then major questions have to be asked! We have had some crap luck with the recent spate of injuries and that cannot be ignored. However, the totally inept performances in front of goal are unacceptable. The one positive was Anfield but, since Leicester we have effectively fallen apart.

I wonder if a 4-4-2 with Joeslu just behin Diouf might be worth a try , it would mean dropping Bojan but he isnt really delivering much at the moment . I dont see Joselu on his own working but he is a clever player and might be able to work well with Diouf's pace and both of them might get on the end of crosses now and then
