Our top scorer last season.
Started the season brightly & obviously tragedy struck, but since then when he's played he's been hung out to dry on the wing.
If there was a striker worthy of a start then I'd understand. But the omission from the staring 11 up top is utterly bizarre.
We need pace & someone with a knack of being in the right place at the right time. We have that with Diouf, so lets get him on the field (in his natural position) & see what happens.
Zero shots on target & one goal in over 4 matches.
What have we got to lose?

I can only assume he's gone completely mental and assumed the personality of Josef Goebbels.

Got to be fair to him and give him a chance against Everton now.

A genuine mystery it has to be said. Currently using the forwards that TP brought in.......who would've thought that? Maybe we should buy Cameron Jerome back......................

Needs to start against Everton. Could do with him chasing John "I'm a footballer not a defender" Stones at every opportunity.

We could do with a cutting media man to ask Hughes a direct question about it.
Nige?

It must be significant. Whatever you think of Hughes he's a man of great tact and if it was simply grief he was struggling with then I'm sure Hughes would have conveyed this in a sensitive way to the support.
Then you get yesterday's rumours...

Can't help but feel the problem lies with Diouf, we had numerous interest for him last month and everyone was shot down straight away? I wish someone would just come out and spill the beans, he's lost his mum, if he's struggling with it it's completely understandable, everyone speculating isn't doing anyone any good but it's going to happen until he either plays or it's explained

If there's something wrong with him, he shouldn't even be on the bench. If there's nothing wrong with him then why's he not on the pitch.
We've looked toothless for some time now. Why've we got our best goalscorer rotting on the bench?

Grief can do some terrible things to a person, just look how Palacios fell apart as a footballer after the death of his brother

Nobody knows but it is becoming a bit of a joke now. Crouch and Odemwingie are blatantly past it, Walters has one good gme in 5 and Joselu has yet to really adapt. So I just can't fathom as to why he refuses to play a striker who scored one in three last season...

93% shot accuracy this season. No shots on target tonight. Splinters on the bench. Is that 93% of the time he has accurately hit the Goalkeeper? would rather have Walters as Striker

Hughes watches him everyday in training. Something is obviously not right with him at the moment, which is why he hasn't been playing this season.

While Diouf's on the pitch there's always the chance he'll score, just by virtue of being in the right place at the right time. He's got a built in instinct for it. Doesn't always end up in the net, but if nothing else he'll test the keeper. Too many games are finishing without the opposing keeper having to do much at all.

So why did we not accept £10 million for him ? something is wrong alright not sure it is Diouf though, still we have an £18million player who might be match fit sometime before the end of the season.

I'm just worried that this is Hughes' Macari/Fox, Pulis/Tuncay moment, where the manager gets a bee in his bonnet about something and can't see what's blindingly obvious to everyone else.

I am not a fan of Pulis but there would be murder on here if Tone hung Diouf out to dry like this. Joselu and Diouf should be starting games, or what was the point in buying them?

Couldn't wait to see the back of Pulis, and have generally loved the Hughes era so far. But in the absence of any word as to why Diouf isn't getting a look in, and particularly as he's fit enough mentally and physically to be on the bench, I think Hughes deserves any criticism that comes his way, given how toothless we look at the moment.
