'When you’re trying to move and become a different club in terms of aspiration and expectation then you have to get the players to drive that. I’ve tried to bring the right quality in. I’ve always felt I’ve had the backing of the club to do something. It’s another example today. It’s a huge vote of confidence from the owners.”
I love these words from Hughes its another clear statement about where we want to be heading. Such positivity after years of playing the 'little old stoke, 40 pts ambition etc' Its amazing to see us now firmly in place as one of the top 10 clubs in English football....back where we belong!

This statement also says he (Hughes) is going nowhere anytime soon. Great time to be a Potter.

Yet there are many waiting in the wings with a knife ready for his back.
During his time with us he's proven that he knows what he is doing. He knows what HIS squad needs, his reputation hangs on it.
Yes, it would've been 'nice' for the fans to sign a winger, a cb, a fullback and a striker. If Hughes thought we needed these players, wouldn't there have been some movement In trying to get them?

So happy to have Hughes as our manager. He's bought a hell of a lot to our table and I hope he's with us for a long time to come.

Hughes knows that Coates knows that Hughes knows. And we knows. Aces.

Its crucial that the club matches Hughes's ambition and we seem to be doing just that with this signing. Big big statement from the owners.

A club like stoke will always have highs and lows over a season. If we didn't and had consistency then we'd be challenging for the title every year.
What's important is as fans we don't overreact when you suffer the odd defeat. Stay loyal, stay loud, stay proud which gives the players the confidence to express out on the pitch.

He'd be mad to go anywhere else now, he's building a very good side brick by brick and has the backing to do so.....(within reason obviously)!!! Moving to a bigger club wouldn't necessarily guarantee that, just look at the state Villa are in, and not a single new player in on deadline day!!!

Are there really people waiting in the wings? I don't sense any of that amongst the fans, or even amongst the Oatcake lunatic fringe. The only undercurrent of feeling I sense is a fear that he'll be off before the job is complete - and the backing he received yesterday allays those fears hugely.

You are right of course. The thing is it is becoming more and more the "odd" defeat. We are gradually becoming more consistent and that raises expectation. I think next season will see Stoke performing from the start as we now have (or will by the end of the season) a strong settled side which can accept the occasional new member without disruption. The entire squad is being gradually upgraded to allow for rotation. It's a great feeling when you look to select a team and the problem is who to drop.

Do you know anyone that does that?

Its pathetic

Massive vote of confidence in Hughes at a time when probably most needed. Bad January out of two cups, talk of other clubs looking for good managers and Sir Peter comes up trumps. And I think they would have spent another £20 million + on that lad down the road. Still summer is around the corner and we do need goals in this team.
Will Imbula be the next Ya Ya Toure?

You still havent explained the knives in the back of Hughes comment. I love a good conspiracy story so please share this with us. I think of you like the gestapo of the oatcake uncovering Stoke related blasphemy, and reporting to Adolf Coates to execute said offenders by firing squad. Do you have a file on me? I feel special

I'm not really sure what you mean? If we throw in a Leicester type performance, then we're all allowed a bit of a moan up whilst still thinking Hughes is ace aren't we? Just like if we win, we're allowed to get the calculators out and look at the rules if teams already in Europe win the cups, to see what we need to do. In just don't detect this eagerness for him to fail that you seem to.
